I love my sony @100, its a little out of date now but all the sony DSLRs are brilliant and really easy for beginners! the price is nicer nearly all of the other cameras but don't be put off by it being 'cheap', its a brilliant camera. Mine came with an 18-70 lens and i use it for portrait photography alot, you can get in close and also its got a nice wide angle to it too. i've barely used my other lens to be honest as its brilliant.
The sony Alpha cameras also fit minolta lenses which was the swing for me as my SLR was a minolta so i had the spare lens already!! if youve got any questions or you want to see some shots taken with it let me know. x |

Thank you for mentioning Sony, lol. The best buy website is only showing the one camera by them, and I completely over-looked it lol.
It actually seems like a better deal/camera than the other one I was thinking of. And it's got another megapixel. Which isn't a huge step up, but it's still better ;D I'm glad you're able to use it for portrait photography, since that's kind of what I would like to do at some point :) |

When i bought my sony it was between that and the canon EOS range, because they're basicly the same quality wise. sony has this cool thing that turns the screen details over when to turn it to portrait though that canon doesnt lol!

OH hehe. Yeah I did read that, which I thought was pretty cool. I'm always really happy when I get sony stuff. So I've been looking into it :)

I bought myself a Canon T1i for my beginner camera. I wanted a 7d but it was a little out of my price range at the moment so eventually I will upgrade when I get better with the one I have now and a bit more serious with it. As for Canon vs Sony it depends on what you want to use it for. One of the reasons I stuck with the two main brands ( Canon and Nikon ) is because they have the biggest selection of lenses to pick from and are at the top of the line for them. If you are just going to stick to the kit lense and the camera not as big of a deal. I chose Canon overall because the camera I want to upgrade to is a Canon.

I have used a Nikon DSLR and it was an awful experience compared to using my Canon. I have the EOS Rebel T1i. It's a 15mp I believe. I have the standard lens for it as well as a zoom/macro lens. I LOVE it. It's user friendly and alot of fun. I haven't gotten a tripod yet but plan on it. I plan on doing our own christmas photo's this year so that'll be a must.

I have a Nikon d40 and I love it. I haven't had any issues with it. I've dropped it [just the body] on concrete and had no problem, just a tiny scratch. [And you know me, so you know I pretty much shit my pants when that happened.] I got mine for like, $500ish, give or take. I also bought a memory card with it and all. I have the basic lens it came with and a month or so after I bought the 55-200mm lens. I want to invest in a remote, tripod [so I can get rid of my ghetto ass pile of movies/DS games 'tripod], and a macro lens at some point.
The only issue I had was that the battery charger it came with just quit working so I had to buy a new one. And I actually like the new charger better than the first. Also in my smaller lens there is a piece of dirt or something trapped in it so I'm going to have to take it somewhere and see if they can get it out since I've had no luck at all. |

Also, way to go self. Saying I had no issues then list issues. Awesome. I blame Hunter for distracting me.
