cough syrup has a certain amount of alcohol in it, they have to drink at least a whole bottle to get drunk or high. i have seen it on episodes of intervention on a&e over here, and alcoholics that are in rehab will sneek in cough syrup and drink it because they cant handle it. yeah its disgusting. cough syrup makes me tired with the normal dose, imagine someone downing a whole bottle to get high or drunk! crazy

I might look at cough medicine here, I'm not meant to consume any alcohol but I am allowed cough medicine, maybe I can find ingredients on google. Nope, no alcohol in the one I normally take.

It's not that their light weights, most of the time it's because they're underage (remember, legal drinking age here is 21) and drinking a butt load of cough syrup can give you the same feeling.

Underage or not... I think you'd have to drink a HUGE amount of cough syrup to actually get drunk on it. And underage doesn't mean anything. Here the legal age for drinking is 18, but the majority of 16 year olds have drank alcohol already.

I take a normal dose of cough syrup and I feel sleepy, dizzy, and loopy and I'm definitely not a light weight with alcohol. I can't imagine it'd take much more than that for most people to feel the same, and I don't think the goal is to actually get DRUNK, but to get the same FEELING. Being underage has a lot to do with it. Not everyone has older friends/family members who can get them alcohol. No one said it was "normal practice" for teenagers here (I know most American kids are drinking around the age of 16 anyway), they just said that it happens.

Lol. That sounds like overkill to me. I think you'd have to drink A LOT of cough syrup to get drunk from it! I've known alcoholic patients to drink it, but that's because they're desperate... I doubt it's very effective as a means of getting drunk. And I've never known a teenager to get drunk from cough syrup here, where they're actually allowed to buy it under the age of 18. And I've never heard of anyone using it to make meth (but I think meth is more popular in the US than in the UK where drugs like ecstasy and cocaine are more popular).

they dont use cough syrup to make meth they use things like sinus medicine to do that, and it is a desperate thing to drink the cough syrup to get a type of buzz, and teenagers buy alot because its the only thing they can get ahold of, lol makes no sense and sounds nasty:)

There seems to be a very unhealthy attitude towards alcohol in the U.S, where as in the UK most people have tried alcohol before their teenage years.

i tried it when i was a teenager. so im not sure what the point is, who knows, kids are still going to do it

Not in the UK. The age of consent in the UK is 16. And as far as I'm aware there is no age restrictions on it's prescription here.

No that is not what I am saying at all. I am saying that if certian cold medications are not legally allowed to be given OTC to minors, then why are they making an exception for plan B? There are other ways of getting Plan B then at your local drug store

I think having it available to 17 year olds is a good idea. Its like getting birth control from Planned Parenthood. It reduces the risk of getting pregnant. It is not an abortion pill. Like Monobooboo said, it makes no sense to not be able to take Plan B when they are 17, but have a kid at 18. Aside from having unprotected sex at 17, I think Plan B is a better option for someone at 17 to make than having a child. Plan B is $44.95 at my local Publix Grocery Store..... Id rather afford to buy emergency birth control, than pay for the needs for a child. Id totally lend my kid $45 to get emergency birth control if I needed to.

It's not like they are changing the age to 13 or 14 to be able to get Plan B without a prescription.

And for the cold medicine, its because you cant make illegal drugs from Plan B. You dont have to be logged in the "Meth book" to buy plan B.....

I see nothing wrong with this idea. I mean, it gives them an alternative... instead of possibly bringing a baby into the world when they're not quite ready to do that yet. Changing the age by a year isn't a big deal. If anything it may help teens.

I think this is the government's way of saying "Hey go out and have sex with whoever you want. Screw being responsible. Think you made a mistake when you woke up? Here, take a chance to kill an innocent life. Go right ahead. We don't care one bit about little babies."

There are some who disagree with the bc pill because they truly believe that it is an abortifecent (sp?). You are not going to win the argument from this angle with someone who believes that way.

Eh, yeah I know. & you're right.
But, just throwing it out there, there are bc pills that cause ovulation to cease, or thicken the cervical mucus making it difficult for sperm to reach the egg. And the plan b pill prevents an egg from being released. [granted it also thins the endometrium, and there are bc pills to do the same, but they are not guaranteed abortifacients, unlike the chemical abortion pill.]
