How are they "plus sized?" They look normal to me. I guess everyone has a different opinion on what fat is.

They aren't fat. At all.
But by "industry standards," they are.
These women are all size 10-18.
Have to start somewhere, you know?

i agree, sizes here, in canada, start at 0, and go 2,4,6,8,10,12, ( some stores will do odd numbers and stop at 13 ) but then plus sizes start at 14 and go up from there, i am an 18, i am 240 pounds or around there.. i would consider THAT plus size, these little bellies are nothing to me, to be considered plus.

I can't see how any of them are plus sized.

So their ribs don't show. Big deal.

I mean, they're all gorgeous. I just don't see how they are plus sized. *shrug*

I watched Ellen today and she was talking to these girls. They said that any girl over a size 6 is considered plus size. That's crazy!

A 'plus size' is considered to be anything over a size 6 (which I believe is a UK size 8)? I think that's where the problem is. To me UK size 10 - 14 (US 8 - 12) is normal sized, not plus sized.

UK Glamour has done articles like this too. I think it's good. But I think we should stop referring to normal sized women as 'plus size'.

I subscribe to a fashion catalogue which is apparently 'plus sized'. They do go up to a size 32 but start from a 12! I always think 18+ is plus sized as those are always the different sections in shops.

Oh I thought it was 16+! I'm terrified of hitting that mark, because I don't want to have to shop in a new section! It was hard enough going from pre-preggo size 5 to after preggo size 12! Bastards!

A UK 18 is a US 16.

How come you have a size 5? All our sizes are even numbers and I thought yours were too?

It depends on the clothing company. Some do even sizes, and some do odd sizes. Most do even, I think.

Wow so what would a size 5 be in a normal shop? A 4 or 6?

I would say a 4 would make sense. If you assume that a 0 and a 1 are equal, then 2 & 3, 4 & 5... But then again, sizes vary widely for different companies. I have clothes in 14s, 16s, and 18s from different makers, and they all fit.

I still have a jumper that's age 14 and is huge on me still, at 22! Must have been made for very obese children ;D

I think junior sizes are odd numbers and misses/womens sizes are even here. It's an odd system.

Juniors sizes here are odd numbers, usually. Misses are usually even numbers.

Depends on where you go. The place I get jeans from, I wear a 4, but the place I get work pants from, I wear a 5. Personally, I think they should stick to one scale, but they don't :P.

I agree. I think 18+ (in the US anyhow, I'm not sure if that's what you were referring to or not ;D) is plus-sized.
When I wore a size 16, I felt very average-sized. Since so many of my friends wore the same size, I still think that makes it average ;D

Different magazines seem to do this periodically, which I think is great, but they rarely adopt plus size/average sized women into their regular issues. I know fruit of the loom has ads with more curvy averaged sized women, but for the most part, even if the magazines with special issues like this, if you flip a few more pages all you're going to see is regular skinny as death models. And I think people are missing the point that these women don't SEEM plus sized when you think of regular people, but in the magazine and model industry they are very much bigger than the 'average' model. Kudos to Glamour though, it's a start.

Well, if they are "plus sized" then I am freaking whale at a size 10! While I appreciate Glamours ATTEMPT to say that these women are beautiful I feel its a piss poor attempt b/c they are in fact calling them plus sized when they are clearly NOT! If they realy wanted to show that "normal" women are beautiful and should be proud of their bodies then they wouldnt call attention to them by calling them plus sized. Thats like telling someone they have a pretty face but could loose a few pounds.
