I TOTALLY HAVE A CLICKY JAW. I'VE HAD IT SINCE I WAS A LITTLE GIRLY. I AM HYPERMOBILE - I DON'T KNOW IF IT HAS TO DO WITH THAT - LIKE IT OPENS MORE THAN IT SHOULD OR SOMETHING. I THINK IT DISLOCATES TOO - IT FEELS LIKE IT IS DISLOCATING.
I GET PAIN SOMETIMES TOO, AND I READ IN MY READERS DIGEST HOME REMEDIES BOOK THAT YOU SHOULD OPEN YOUR MOUTH AND MASSAGE YOUR TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR JOINTS. I HAVE TOTALLY BEEN DOING THAT EVERY DAY FOR THE PAST WEEK, AND GOSH, IT IS VERY PAINFUL TO DO. BUT I THINK IT HELPS. IT IS NOW LESS PAINFUL THAN IT WAS AT FIRST. |

Ahh I've been massaging it, it seemed like the natural thing to do! And taking ibuprofen - it totally helps.
It hasn't been hurting as much as it was (I am teaching myself to not clench my jaw so much) but I wish it would stop! |

GOOD, YO. DO YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH TO MASSAGE IT? AND GET YOUR FINGER IN RIGHT BETWEEN THE JAWBONE AND BOTTOM OF YOUR EAR? AND MOVE IT ROUND IN CIRCLES? LIKE I WAS MASSAGING MINE BEFORE, BUT NOT IN THAT WAY. IT HURTS A LOT DOING IT THAT WAY, YO.

Not specifically there because it was hurting a bit more by my cheekbone, odd that ha. But massaging where it said to doesn't hurt me thankfully.

Heard of EDS. Ehler Danlos Syndrome? Both the girls and I have it. Causes the hypermoblity not just in joints but other places that one wouldn't think such events could occur lol
|
Estella Post Count: 1779 |
Yeah, I've heard of it but never got myself tested or anything. Where else does your hypermobility occur?
|
Meghans Follie Post Count: 433 |
it effects my skin (too loose and too thin) heart, lungs and my "females" organs to lump them altogther as my doc likes to lol.
ednf.org is a good site - as testing for it is hard since its "only" a syndrome often confused with fibromyalgia |
Estella Post Count: 1779 |
How do they test your lungs and heart for such a thing?
|
Meghans Follie Post Count: 433 |
they don't. Kinda if you have the right symptoms they assume thats what it is. I have asthma like symptoms that isnt asthma, and a murmur with no hole and heart rate that swings from tachy to bradic all on its own in a matter of minutes
|
Estella Post Count: 1779 |
Is there anything they can do about it, or is it just that they are aware of it?

physical therapy to strengthen my muscles, but the others are treated as they pose issues. I have an inhaler if I need it, beta blockers if my heart rate stays too high and an epi pen if it gets too low and stays that way. Other then that not a lot. I get an EKG and echo done every month to make sure theres no heart damage. Havent had to use anything for about a year. I do over-heat easily :) ought to make menopause a blast one of these days. Same with the cold - I cant be out in the cold too long or my body will lock up. Makes life intresting

I have a clicky jaw only when I eat on the right side of my mouth. If I eat on the left side it doesn't click, yo.

my jaw totally clicks!
all the time! |
Meghans Follie Post Count: 433 |
I assume by clicky you mean pops? Or do you mean constantly clicks each time you open/close your mouth? A popping is very typical and more women "suffer" from it then men. If its a constant click everytime you open/close youth mouth any dentist worth his pay knows that is a sign of bad things to come and needs attention

Well it's like a clunk as my friend puts it (she has it too). Normally on the left side, up by my cheekbone; where the top and the bottom jaw meet. It clicks every time I open my mouth but doesn't hurt. It's not a bad sign, a third of people have it and my dentist has never mentioned it. My nan had it and I don't believe she had any problems - she did knock all her teeth out though when she was 40ish after crashing her bike!

I have one! I saw a dentist and an orthodontist about it. Apparently there is a surgery to fix it, but it's not always effective. I was told that as long as it doesn't constantly hurt, it shouldn't be a problem. It's more annoying than painful.
