My doctor said that they do it at 2-3days old because they won't remember the pain, which is sad to me. It's like they torture babies just becaue all they can do is cry and not actually say it hurts. All they do is numb the tip of the penis beforehand. And nowadays (at least in Ohio) they are doing such horrible jobs that the kids end up having to go back and get surgery to get their circ redone. Both my sons are circumcised and my younger one had to go back when he was a year old and be put to sleep and get it redone because they didn't do it correctly. If I ever had another son I would seriously consider not having him circumcised.

My husbands best friend was circumcised at birth and they did an incomplete circumcision. He had to go back at 13 years old and have it re-done, which was not only mortifying for him, but PAINFUL!

I have a friend who's about to be 21 and is deciding to have it done. I'd almost call him excited about it, with the way he texted me telling me. :|
But my cousin had to be re-circ'd at 4 years old. My mom mentioned it once, and how miserable he was :( |

Honestly it didn't really bother my son when he got it redone, he didn't act like he was in pain at all as soon as we got home he was wanting to get down and play.

I observed a circumcision when I was doing my hospital rotation in nursing school. They put a cream similar to EMLA on the tip of the penis and let it sit for oh, maybe 5 minutes? And then they cut. How in the world that equates to pain relief is beyond me. Those poor babies scream.. and trust me, a lot of websites and people will say it is because they were strapped down - that is NOTHING compared to the screaming AFTER the circumcision.

I know this sounds bad but I don't remember if they put him under. I know he was very sleepy for the next 24 hrs. Most of the babies born at that hospital do it right after they are born.

Here babies are generally circumcised before they're discharged from the hospital at birth (which, depending on if mom had a c-section or natural childbirth, usually ranges from 24-72 hours after birth). The hospital I work for does inject lidocaine pre-procedure, but that of course doesn't help when the ache is there after it wears off :(.

I'd doubt an injection of lignocaine does very much during the procedure either. :P

Yeah, I'm not sure. I know whatever they injected me with to cut out a mole on my back left me feeling absolutely nothing at the time, but I'm not sure if it's the same thing they use for circumcision, nor am I sure how that would work on such a more sensitive body part :/.

Yeah, both of my nephews had it done within three days of being born (before they left the hospital to go home.)
I was only 10/13 when they were born so I really don't remember their reactions afterwards. But I know my oldest nephew was smiling when he came back from the surgery; which was apparently amusing to my dad and brother. |

Eh blah. That would have been me ;D

Lol. A 3 day old baby can't smile. At least not in the smiling because he was happy sense. Social smile develops at the age of several weeks. It was probably just gas.

Meh, I consider it a smile; whatever the cause.

Sorry, my point was just that it wouldn't have been a smile of happiness. So doesn't change the fact he was probably in pain.

Zachary had his done at 2 days old as well. Im glad I did it. If I have anymore boys they all will be circ'ed as well.

Some people do it for cleanliness reasons - like, so you don't get dirt accumulating in that flappy foreskin!
I know a very strict Christian couple (in the UK) who got their 12-year-old son with Down Syndrome circumcised for religious reasons. I thought that was ridiculous - the kid didn't understand what was going on and he was in pain for ages. He was walking all funny and crying in church. |

I have had multiple sex partners, with and without circumcision. Since the risks outweigh the negligible benefits, the only thing I would consider would be how the foreskin affects my sex life. It has no effect I have noticed. Not to be all TMI or whatever, but during sex, the foreskin is pushed back anyway, so it's not interfering with anything. I have never felt a difference. So circumcision is out.
On a personal note, I prefer an uncircumcised penises because they're much more entertaining to me. The foreskin adds an element of "mystery" and "surprise". ;D |

I'm really undecided about if I would circumsize
my son or not. I do know that I've met a few men who are actually embarassed by the fact that they are uncircumsized, and they really want to be circumsized but their insurance doesn't cover it or they don't have insurance. So...I'm not sure what I would do. |

My insurance will not cover circumcision either, I will be paying out of pocket to get it done.

my son is un-circ'ed and thats b.c the dr didn't give us a specific time to take him in. all she said was make an appointment and she'll do it in her medical office. i called when he was 2 weeks old and she said that it was too late to do it and he would have to see a specialist. i was gonna have him get circ'ed but now its not an issue with him. i clean him properly and thats all that matters. my mom on the other hand keeps asking me when i'm gettting him circ'ed b.c she says he'll be "cleaner". he sees nothing different between his wenus(thats what we call his)and his father's ding-dong.

when i saw this thread i asked my fiance, and he said that he would want our son(s) to be circ'ed. he said that there was only one un-circ'ed boy in the locker room at high school and that the poor boy got teased for it ruthlessly and he wouldn't want our son(s) to be the one(s) that is made fun of for being different down there.
