I find it very funny how non-Christians get called ignorant when extreme Christians aren't? No, they are just as "ignorant" as people would call people who do not practice Christianity. How is that fair? Last time I checked they are just as judgemental and extreme more than the person next to them who don't practice it.

Also, ignorant does not mean the same as judgemental and extreme (although someone may be judgemental as a result of ignorant beliefs).

Oh yes they are! You never met the ones that preached at me and judged me. So that statement is false.

Eh? What are you talking about? The people you are talking of may well have been judgemental and extreme, and they may well have been ignorant. I'm not disputing that. I'm just making the point that because someone is judgemental and extreme does not necessarily mean they're ignorant (although they may well be), or vice versa. The words have different meanings. That was my point.

And hes a minor ;) any contract he signs is void anyways.

When he signed it; I'm sure they had a parental signature anyways. But if you go back to what I read anyways, it would be void anyways because the principle signed the form allowing him to go to this dance. :)

Where in the bible does it state "Thou shalt not attend a prom" or "Thou shalt not listen to certain music"?
What is this school basing their rules off of? They really should watch Footloose. Yes, yes indeedy :P As for all the religious debates earlier in the thread. Peoples ignorance is appauling. I'm not religious, I think most religion is a crock of shit. ButI don't even blame this on religion. It's a school trying to extend their rule beyond the school yard. As far as I'm concerned, once you're off the school grounds and out of uniform then you do what you please and you eave the disciplinary action and decisions up to the parents. No school will ever, IN A MILLION YEARS, tell my child what she can and cannot partake in outside of school hours. And no school will hold my daughter to ANY contract, if she signs as a minor, without ME signing it as well. |

Thank you. Glad to see sanity has not entirely been lost.
Like I said, it's about power and control, not religion. |

I don't think it's really fair to say religion is a huge joke, especially based on this article. Religion helps a lot of people with moral issues, direction in life, and general just making it through to the end of the day. This coming from a NON-religious person. I mean it is pretty fucking stupid, yes, and what he does outside of school shouldn't affect if he graduates as long as it isn't something illegal. But I kind of agree that he and his parents should have known what he was getting into by going to this school.

"it" being the situation in the article- not religion!

Just out of curiosity how are they going to know if he has been "involved in alcohol or sex at the prom?" Are the school officials going to go down there and stalk him? Or are they just going to assume that since he went to the prom he's drinking and banging anything with a pulse?
