Ah. Makes more sense now. I've never heard it called anything but Family Planning, and I always thought that was kinda silly.

Technically the only thing that can PREVENT pregnancy is Abstinence.
Birth control pills stop ovulation, and its only, what? 99% effective? (I think?) when taken on time, EVERY day. I think I read somewhere that one missed day can increase your chances to get pregnant by a third, or something like that.

It doesn't prevent anything, it severely lowers the chances. As does withdrawl. Albeit not as greatly as the bill/shot/patch/ring/blah/etc. but it still lowers them.

Missing one pill doesn't really matter. But if you miss more than 1, that's when you need to take extra precautions.

99% effective if used perfectly, something like 80% effective if used like the 'average woman'. Obviously, the 'average woman' is an idiot.

Never heard of that before. She couldn't have been taking them perfectly. All the inserts that come with them always say that missing 1 isn't a big deal but if you miss 2 you must take extra precautions for the next 7 days.

I had an ALARM set on my phone, never missed a pill, and took them at 9pm daily... got pregnant. So, it can happen wether you miss a pill, or not ;)

Actually, there is like a ten hour window time for when you miss a pill. So for example, if I take the pill at 11pm every night and I miss it, I need to remember to take it before or at 9am the next day. It won't reduce the efficacy at all.

I was always told it was a form of BC. That and the rhythm method.

Just because it won't always WORK doesn't mean it's not a method. I got pregnant on birth control pills... does that make it NOT a method? Just like the rythym method... not always reliable, but it works for some people.

I have heard it was a method. But it doesn't work very well for women in my family. Thats how my mom got pregnant with my brother, I got pregnant with my 5 year old doing that, my aunt got pregnant with my cousin.

I have used the pill, two different types. I get chest pains, it doesn't work well for me.
I have used the ring and the patch, and I wouldn't stop bleeding.
I never tried the shot, too scarey sounding for me.
I finally found something that worked WONDERFULLY.. no side effects at all. The Mirena IUD. However, after 7 months on it, I got pregnant. LOL!

In mindizzle's defense, when I go to the OB and fill out all my paperwork (This is my fifth baby) they ask if you were using birth control, and to check which one(s). Withdrawl is listed on there. Its a preventive measure, so like condoms, some do consider it a form of birth control.

Well I get that to an extent. I guess they want to know throughly whether someone is doing anything at all-but I still don't think it is a 'method' the way the pill /patch/condoms/etc are. That's just not the same.

I have to say that I have never heard of pulling out as a method and I agree with you. I also want to know what kind of High School's are teaching that 'pulling out' is a method. If my memory serves me our health teacher went out of her way to make sure we understood that wasn't preventative. In fact going on the definition of contraceptive 'pulling out' could not and is not a contraceptive.

"Contraceptive- an agent or device intended to prevent conception" Webster online

No high school teaches it, I did not say I learned it from a high school. I did research on BC both through talking to doctors and my own research, this is the method I have used.

True, but contraceptives are a FORM of birth control. Birth control is much more than just devices & drugs.

Just wanted to share some withdrawal statistics, its really not *too* bad as long as you ALWAYS do it "correctly." And as ya'll can see, it is considered birth control by Planned Parenthood, as well. Birth control is so much more than a device and/or drug. The Fertility Awareness Method is also birth control, and you aren't using anything other than common knowledge.
