Is this a bit too risque for a 7 year old?

A bit too risque? They're 7! They're talented, but that whole thing could have been a lot more tasteful and age appropriate.

I don't think it's the dancing, it's what they are wearing that is disturbing. It wouldn't have looked that bad if those little girls were wearing more clothes. I would never let my daughter wear outfit like that if she was in dance nor would I let her wear that grown up makeup. My sister has been in dance since she was young and she would wear that whore makeup. I didn't get it. Luckily, she never wore small outfits like those girls in the video.

I'm not fond of the make-up either, but honestly, on stage the lights wash their little faces out so much that, without make-up, they look like ghosts. My 4 year old has a recital on Saturday, and we have to wear neutral blush, brown eyeshadow, mascara, and bright red lipstick. I'm used to it now, but when she was 2, the first time I had to put Hooker-Red lipstick on my baby, I was appalled.

Agreed. I mean, it's the costumes that *really* do it. Had they been dressed like normal kids, it wouldn't have been SO bad.

Someone here said that those types of contests aren't supposed to be taped (not even for the parents) but that brings up one alarming point... It *was* taped. By someone. There will ALWAYS be someone out there breaking the rules, and just because you're not 'allowed' to tape them doesn't mean a damned thing. You're not 'allowed' to tape certain concerts, or movies when you go to the theater, but does anyone have trouble finding bootlegs?

So basically, some idiot in the audience wanted to show everyone in their family how well their future-prostitute can dance, and now this video is viral and added into every pedophiles porn collection. Way to go, mom!

There is no way in hell my mom would have ever allowed me to dress OR dance like that, nor would I if I ever had a child. Of course it's easy to blame Beyonce' or whoever/whatever else but I think we can kindly point the blame at the parents for even allowing that. Blaming someone else for doing what you CHOOSE to do is wrong and quite frankly, stupid.

I have NO problem with young girls dancing but these parents and dance troops need to start them off with age appropriate moves AND clothes. It's ultimately the parents responsibility to say this is not appropriate for my 5,6,7,8,9, or 10 year old to wear or dance. They need to stop offering up their children to the sexual predators out there.

the skill they have for their age is really impressive.

the costumes made me vomit a little in my mouth.

perhaps if the costumes weren't so whore-ish i'd simply be left feeling impressed.

I don't think little girls should dress or dance like that. My cosuin lets her kids dance like that (6 and 9) and they also dress very grown. These two girls have a whole different attitude than my other cousin (6) who doesn't dance or dress like that. The media is trying very hard to corrupt the kids and I think parents should be more selective about the things they let their kids do. I agree that for their age they were very talented though.

I got onto my 4 year old (at the time) niece for singing the Get Low song. Of course she had no idea what it was about and yeah it was cute when you were driving and you'd hear "low low low low Boots! Fur!" but still. Now that she's about to be 6 I still make sure she keeps her belly covered and her bits covered. We don't even walk down the hall after her bath until she's covered up just because we're attempting to teach her modesty. When she comes to my house to spend the weekend, I make sure I have clothes picked out to wear at night when I go to bed. It's about teaching your child how to be age appropriate and the parents of these girls didn't.

They could have complained about the costumes and they would've been changed. It's happened here in my town before. They've even had to change the dance once the girls got home and began to practice at home. It's called parental intervention and it did not happen in this case.

I'm going to hazard a guess that the reason the costumes weren't bought to dispute by the parents is because they are competitive and what their kid to win.

And, this is why if I have a girl, she won't be in beauty pageants or hip hop dance classes. People are morons. And I heard that the girls were actually 8 or 9, not that it makes any difference. It's still insanely stupid.

I agree on the beauty pagent thing too. It just seems so wrong to me to teach a child to be competitive over their looks, and teach them that it's important to be the most beautiful.

In watching the show "Toddlers & Tiaras" I feel that the parents are living vicariously through their children!

It's a dance competition and I think it's fine. If I had a daughter that could dance and was part of a dance troupe, I would allow her to wear the outfit that the dance troupe picks. I've been in theater for over 25 years. Sometimes you just have to go with the performance. That doesn't mean my opinion is the same as other mothers out there. You have to make your own decision as to what you're comfortable with your child doing.

So you'd be comfortable with men looking at your child as a sexual object then?

My child at any age would never be dressing like that. I am not saying they cant be in a dance competition, but they need to be wearing clothes... leotards or something. That is just not ok for a 7 year old, no matter where they are, they are selling sex at 7 years old!

holy shit, that was disturbing. they did NOT look like 7 year olds. it wasn't just the costumes, though! even if they were in full body suits, the gyrations and pelvic thrusts made me feel the need to shower after watching it. the skill is AMAZING and i wish i could dance like that, yes, but i simply cannot divorce that fact in my mind from the fact that they look like little strippers and are moving like they are having sex with some invisible person on stage. it's too damn disturbing.

i understand that they are children & yes they shouldn't be doing Beyonce's dance step for step (which for 7 year old that's pretty amazing).

I think a lot of the disgust that people are feeling should go to the parents & dance instructor(s) for teaching the children those dance moves. I however, fail to see how people get upset about this (granted I do feel those girls should have had more clothes on, less makeup, & a shit load less stripper like moves) but a little girl that age in a beauty pageant wearing way more makeup, hair spray, & a swim suit shakin her butts on a stage to this song doesn't piss people off like this. Yes she didn't do it step for step but still. I think it's rather hypocritical to be okay with that & not okay with this.

I'm just sayin'. To me this dance group is like a cheerleading squad. Shit load of make up & barely anything clothing, dancing to a popular song. Exactly like a cheerleading squad & don't most squads start at 4 if it's out side of a school activity?

That would annoy me just as much as this video does. Both are completely innappropriate for children.

So true. That's why I won't put my girls (if I have girls) in a beauty pageant. Children are not little dolls to dress up. They are real people that we need to take care of & show them love & show them what to do & what is not okay to do.

& that girl I mention I saw on TLC on Toddler & Tiaras

I am not okay with that either. I think Red quoted it perfectly - Beauty Pageants teach little girls that beauty is the only way to get ahead... I would never allow my daughter to do something like that, or the dance.

I'm the same way. My sister does dance in a group. Its ballet folklorico (mexican folk dancing) & the most 'risque' part of their outfit is that the sleeves of the shirt kind of sit on the each of the shoulders of the children. So the dance instructor decided to have them sewn so that they would sit on the shoulders correctly. I love her dance instructor! She didn't even wait for a parent to object to it. The minute she saw it she told us "I'll have my sister sew the sleeves so they cover their shoulders"

That's what these other instructors should be doing!!!

I think this is completely disgusting! They are little kids! What shocks me the most is that any teacher would teach such innocent little girls to dance so provocatively and sexily like that, and that any parents would allow their 7 year old to be dressed like that.

Honestly, I'm just totally astounded and think this is completely innappropriate. Those girls are obviously talented dancers, but it's perfectly possible to teach kids to do a dance routine wearing proper clothing and without having to do such sexy moves. That's completely unnecessary.

This video is disgusting. Sure, they are great dancers, but at 7 years old? They shouldn't be dancing like this. Let's not even get into the costumes. Lord knows pedophiles already want to. I've always wanted to put my children in dance because my parents were never financially able to give me that opportunity. But, after seeing this, and seeing that "many companies nowadays make children dance like this", count me the fuck out. I'm glad I wasn't dancing like a slut at 7 years old.
