I didn't intend to start a debate either... I was just trying to educate. Some people just don't want to hear it sadly. Yet again, makes me glad I live in a slightly more open minded country!

;D well you proved very valid points, and it's things people in america need to see and understand. . . me being one of them, I just wish I had discovered all of this information before I had hit 30 weeks! But I also live in Hawai'i on the big island and there is only one birthing center with midwives, and it's about a 2 hour drive. Although lots of women on the side of the island i live on go the distance for it, i'm just scared I wouldn't even make it there! I'm not against either way, I think midwives and most obgyn's are amazing, I just wish more would go out of their comfort zone to realize their other options! I'm glad i've sparked intrest in women wanting to see the documentary, that was my main goal in posting this forum! Haha i'm sure there are pleanty of grammar errors in this as well, and it's not very well said, i'm just thinking and typing as I go and am too lazy to read over it to see if it even makes sense :-P

You raised some really good points. I don't plan on having babies for a while, but when I do I want to be in a hospital, with all the drugs available to me ;D

I guess it depends on where we live. In my state, it's actually a law that midwives can be present/help, but can't actually deliver the baby. Obviously all states are that ignorant, since people like Erika (Desiring Holiness) have delivered with a midwife. I know someone who just moved to Oregon from my state and she will be going the all natural route at a birthing center with a midwife . Chris and I also have a friend who had her baby delivered by a midwife in Tennessee last summer.

It seems to be a growing movement. Lately I've seen 'Alabama mothers deserve midwives" bumper stickers. I think that birth centers, doulas and midwives are increasingly popular in America, but it depends on where you live what your resources are. Here I expect to give birth in a hospital when I get pregnant (Chris being a scientist couldn't deal with me elsewhere, he's be too worried about complications) but we plan on being loud and demanding during the process about what we want. :-P

My birth story is in my diary. It's on friends only, but anyone who would like to view it is welcome, just ask, so I can set it up so you can.
