to mojo jojo, well it is fat. its a fact.

to ban ignorance, then if you try, fair enough, some people are just naturally bigger and some are just naturally smaller, i find it physically impossible to gain weight and i eat shit and dont exercise. but my best friend eats well and exercises and is fat. it's not fair. i wasnt trying to say it's bad to be fat, i just dont think it should be held in some sort of weird light where it's seen as good to be overweight. it's good to be healthy, it's good to exercise. so i'm actually being mean to me as well here because i dont exercise, i eat better than the majority but still crap. i think, and thats the important thing it's MY opinion, that neither fat or skinny people should be models, it should be healthy bodies, something to really aspire to. i dont aspire to be a size 16, i think it's sad if someone does (unless you're losing weight then it's different), but also don't like being thin, i want to have curves and an athletic body, people are ALL different, but being healthy is what's most important.

Why is it you think they are glorifying being overweight? Did it not occur to you that they are glorifying loving yourself no matter what you look like, regardless of your size? Because when it all boils down to it, no matter how big you are and how thin you want to be, or how thin you are and how big you want to be, if you don't love yourself the way you are RIGHT NOW, you're not going to love yourself when you get to be the weight you want to be.

It's just as hard to gain weight PROPERLY as it is to lose weight. There are rules to it, you don't gain weight by just eating crap, so take your own advice and eat healthy, like you want to be, and eat a lot of protein and carbs and maybe you'll gain weight better a healthier way. It also sounds like your friend has a thyroid problem if she's eating well and exercising, unless she's doing at a rate that doesn't stress her body enough to get results by losing weight. Women are beautiful in all sizes, anyway, not everyone is going to be "perfect", whatever size that may be, as long as a person is healthy and comfortable with themselves, that's all that matters. I just like the fact that Glamour is taking a step to show that there are women out there that are larger than a size 5, and can still be beautiful. WE'RE NOT FAT, WE'RE FULL FIGURED!

see, when i hear "plus size" i think of anything above size 16 [i think that's size 14 in the us] none of these women look above size 16 to me.

i hate fashion. i'd rather not have to stop eating all the rubbish i eat and move more than i already do just to fit into some fashionable clothes.

Hey all, if you live in the UK then there is currently a petition on the Downing Street website to get body confidence put on the curriculum in schools. You can find it here: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/bodyconfidence/

It has been set up by 'Miss Naked Beauty' Shona, who won the competition run by Gok Wan last year. She's a 'real-sized' person and has started her fight against using super skinny models in magazines etc in the UK. If you have a few minutes it is worth signing the petition :)

I know Shona has also been battling to get Vogue to use 'real women' in their clothing section, but I don't know how far she has got with it!

i'll probably get crap for this, so bring it on.

but.. i do love a nice, TONED plus size girl. i think their bodies are beautiful.
but some of those women, with the guts hanging over and the bodies just... fat, flabby, no tone whatsoever?

whatever, i think it's gross.

If you are referring to the first picture where her stomach is hanging over, it has nothing to do with not exercising. It's from having kids. When you are pregnant the skin on your stomach stretches to like 3 or more times more than it should be, plus your abdominal wall rips apart (causing you to lose tone in that area) the ONLY thing that will heal that is TIME. Exercising is great, but it won't take it away just like that it takes many years for your body (particularly the stomach) to heal from carrying another human being inside you. =)

Well I hope it never happens to you then!

Just because you don't like something on someone's body doesn't mean you have to say anything. Nobody cares.

... This debate is idiotic.

Fat is determined by body fat % as measured by calipers (arm/stomach/thigh)

Women: >25%
Men: >18%

(This is what I consider fat -- being below these numbers indicates fitness.)
