'THEN' IS A TIME-RELATED ADVERB. IT TELLS YOU WHEN YOU DID SOMETHING. LIKE 'BLOOP WAS SO FULL OF DRAMA BACK THEN!' IT REFERS TO A TIME IN THE PAST, AND IS OFTEN USED TO CONTRAST WITH 'NOW'. 'NOW BLOOP IS NOTHING LIKE IT WAS THEN'.

'THAN' IS A COMPARATIVE PREPOSITION. IT COMPARES TWO THINGS. 'PUCK IS COOLER THAN BOTTOM'. HOWEVER, IN THE OLDEN DAYS (LIKE LONG AGO, BEFORE YOUR TIME!) 'THAN' WAS ALSO USED TO MEAN 'THEN'.

Since you're answering grammar related questions... what is the difference between presume and assume? Those two have always bugged me.

THEY'RE PRETTY MUCH THE SAME. BOTH MEAN THAT YOU ARE TAKING FOR GRANTED SOMETHING THAT IS NOT PROVED.

'PRESUME' TENDS TO IMPLY SOME KIND OF DELIBERATENESS THOUGH - THAT YOU ARE CHOOSING TO 'ACT AS IF' SOMETHING IS PROVED (BEING FULLY AWARE THAT IT'S NOT) AND WORKING ON THAT ASSUMPTION. AND YOU TEND TO HAVE A RATIONALE FOR WHY YOU ARE PRESUMING SOMETHING - IT IS NOT A RANDOM ASSUMPTION.

'ASSUME' CAN BE USED IN THAT DELIBERATE SENSE, BUT ALSO IS OFTEN USED TO MEAN THAT PEOPLE ARE TAKING SOMETHING AS FACT WITHOUT EVEN BEING AWARE THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS NOT PROVEN. LIKE, PEOPLE CAN NAIVELY ASSUME THINGS TO BE TRUE, WHEREAS WITH 'PRESUME' YOU ARE ALWAYS AWARE THAT YOU HAVE NO PROOF AND YOU ARE DELIBERATELY PRESUMING FOR A REASON.

SO, FOR INSTANCE (AS WAS SHOWN IN DEAR ANON RECENTLY! ;D) SOMEONE COULD RANDOMLY ASSUME I AM A BLOKE, WITHOUT HAVING EVER QUESTIONED THIS ASSUMPTION OR HAD ANY REASON FOR IT. OR, THEY COULD LOOK AT MY DIARY AND SEE WHAT I WRITE AND THEN PRESUME I'M A BLOKE, BECAUSE OF CERTAIN CLUES IN WRITING STYLE, BUT THEY'D BE AWARE THAT THIS MIGHT NOT BE TRUE (AND WOULD NO DOUBT ALTER THIS PRESUMPTION WHEN READING ABOUT MY VISITS FROM AUNTIE FLO! ;D).

OF COURSE BOTH WORDS ALSO HAVE OTHER MEANINGS, BUT, LIKE, YOU CAN LOOK IN THE DICTIONARY TO FIND THEM. PERSONALLY, I ALWAYS USE THE WORD 'ASSUME', BECAUSE 'PRESUME' ALSO HAS NEGATIVE CONNOTATIONS REGARDING PRESUMPTUOUSNESS - SO I WILL SAY 'I ASSUME THAT...' AND THUS USE 'ASSUME' IN THE DELIBERATE SENSE.

Obviously your entries regarding your visits from Auntie Flo were either completely overlooked by said accuser, OR they don't know who Auntie Flo is. In which case, I'd question the gender of the person doing the accusing in the first place. ;-) Then again, we all know that particular "insult" (if you can call it that) was a fake one, popped off the top of the head of someone who simply wanted to TRY hurt your feelings.

Ah, the Laz incident was pretty epic. Wasn't she another who was "leaving Bloop" for about 6 months?

And the giant debate of the James boif if he was real or not. W/e real sympathy I had for her in the beginning it totally died w/ all of the bs she started when she started to "leave."

Maybe I had my head in the ground, but who on earth was Laz? I keep hearing "Laz this" and "Laz that", but I have NO FREAKING CLUE who or what Laz is.

I'm not exactly sure on the specifics, but there was this chick with mental problems that was cool at first, but then she just kind of went batshit on Estella and left Bloop, but really didn't leave, and pretended to be someone else, but then really did leave.

Laz cannot back down from a fight. This being bloopdramz, there was much fighting. It all got VERY personal and she left.
