Canada is a beautiful country, but I've yet to come across a America-hating Canadian who has any idea why they hate America.

I have been twice (I'm from the UK) and I love it there. It's the one place I could actually see myself living other than England.

I have been to Canada once so far, London Ontario I went to visit a friend there. I would love to live there someday or get a summer house, I absolutely loved it up there and the people were really nice, rarely any crime in that part either.

YOU KNOW YOUR CANADIAN WHEN
You stand in "line-ups" at the movie, not lines. You're not offended by the term "Homo Milk". You understand the sentence, "Could you please pass me a serviette, I just spilled my poutine." You eat chocolate bars instead of candy bars. You drink pop, not soda. You know what it means to be on pogey. You know that a mickey and 2-4's mean "Party at the camp, eh!" You can drink legally while still a teen. You talk about the weather with strangers and friends alike. You don't know or care about the fuss with Cuba, it's just a cheap place to travel with good cigars and no Americans. When there is a social problem, you turn to your government to fix it instead of telling them to stay out of it. You're not sure if the leader of your nation has EVER had sex and you really don't want to know if he has! You get milk in bags as well as cartons and plastic jugs. Pike is a type of fish, not some part of a highway. You drive on a highway, not a freeway. You know what a Robertson screwdriver is. You have Canadian Tire money in your kitchen drawers. You know that Thrills are something to chew and "taste like soap." You know that Mounties "don't always look like that." You dismiss all beers under 6% as "for children and the elderly." You know that the Friendly Giant isn't a vegetable product line. You know that Casey and Finnegan are not a Celtic musical group. You participated in "Participaction." You have an Inuit carving by your bedside with the rationale, "What's good enough protection for the Prime Minister is good enough for me." You wonder why there isn't a 5 dollar coin yet. Unlike any international assasin/terrorist/spy in the world, you don't possess a Canadian passport. You use a red pen on your non-Canadian textbooks and fill in the missing 'u's from labor, honor, and color. You know the French equivalents of "free", "prize", and "no sugar added", thanks to your extensive education in bilingual cereal packaging. You are excited whenever an American television show mentions Canada. You make a mental note to talk about it at work the next day. You can do all the hand actions to Sharon, Lois and Bram's "Skin-a-ma-rinky-dinky-doo" opus. You can eat more than one maple sugar candy without feeling nauseous. You were mad when "The Beachcombers" were taken off the air. You know what a toque is. You have some memento of Doug and Bob. You know Toronto is not a province. You never miss "Coaches Corner." Back bacon and Kraft Dinner are two of your favorites food groups. |

Not that I ever use it, but I currently have $1.50 You have an Inuit carving by your bedside with the rationale, "What's good enough protection for the Prime Minister is good enough for me." Yes, and no. Screw the PM; I love Native art anyway. But more localized art like Haida (particularly from western British Columbia) or Cree (particularly from northern Alberta). You know the French equivalents of "free", "prize", and "no sugar added", thanks to your extensive education in bilingual cereal packaging. I have actually retained more French from bilingual packaging than I have from my ten years of French classes. XD |

Agreed on the last point. Bilingual packaging/signs are your friend. xD

Some of this kind of implies that we're (Canadians) are backwater hicks, although, sadly, a lot of it is true. lol And I think I nearly died when I read the one about the homo milk as well as that whole beer thing since it's true. lol I still have Canadian Tire money floating around and I don't even live in Canada anymore. What the hell am I going to use Crappy Tire money for in Spain? Lol This made me laugh and miss Canada.

I love Canada! I've been to Toronto, Montreal, Niagara Falls and St Johns and I loved them all, and they were each very individual and charming in their own way. I really want to go to Vancouver one day too.
They've got lots of the things that I like about the US (better weather than us, amazing desserts, cheaper shopping), but they have stricter gun laws and a proper health care system! I'd happily live in Canada, except that I'd need to sit lots of extra, expensive exams to work over there. :P Oh, and all the Canadians I've met have been lovely people. And they're better at getting the British sense of humour than Americans are. Canadians think I'm funny. :) |

Our weapon laws in general are much more strict than America's. There are TONS of weapons that are illegal here that Americans can get their hands on no problem. It makes things very difficult for collectors (like me), but I do believe that's part of the reason our crime rate is relatively low.

that's because they don't Americanize our programming - they leave a lot of it British still.
There's this one Cheerios commercial... on Canadian channels, the people have British accents, on American channels, they dubbed it with American voices. *rolls eyes* it disgusts me. |

Haha I totally know what you're talking about!!
I was watching NBC or something and when I heard they changed they accents, I laughed out loud. Soooo dumb. :P |
