Banfield, The Pet Hospital

Am I the only one who finds this place to be a terrible excuse for a pet hospital or no? For the third time now, I have been screwed. I know someone is going to leave a comment about how I shouldn't keep going back to them but I have tried different locations and all of them are terrible. I thought it might just be that one location but nope.

The first time I took my dog there, they told us that we needed to put him down right then or he was going to die that night of Parvo. That was when Doobie was about three months old and he is now a healthy one year old dog. We got his first day of treatments at Banfield and then took him to a wonderful Vet that actually cares more about the animals than how much he can rip someone off for.

The second time he was seen, it was because he had a black thing that looked like a bite on his ear. The Vet there told me that he had double ear infections and they were really bad. Plus, he apparently had a high fever that was not good for him. She insisted that I get him a shot and put on medicines before I left there that day. Funny thing was that I took him right to the same Vet who treated him for Parvo; who checked him out and his ears were perfectly clean. The black thing was indeed a bug bite and I walked out of there paying a total of 30 dollars. Instead of the 350 dollars that Banfield was asking. The estimate was actually between 350 and 500.

Then today I was calling around because Doobie continues licking his butt and so on. It's from his anal glands being full. I called one location and they told me 27 dollars plus the Vet visit. I called one closer to my house to make an appointment and they told me it would be 50 dollars. When I informed her what the other was charging, she sounded stupid and started tripping over her own words.

Yes, I will never ever again think about taking my dog back to them. I just wanted to know if anyone else has ever had a problem with them!?!

Die from what? (I never heard of it)
No ur not the onli 1 - they have prices that are instane I go2. A vet a local vet that doesn't charge office visits if they gets shots or get something but if a checkk up 30 dollars office visit
Good insurance on animals my dad pays like 20 bucks a month on his dog monthly for insurance so check ups shots emerency whatever --- "free". Its worth it for him cuz he plays with her a lot and hard, he constant has her go for a check up so if she ever rips a leg muscle from running (he gets up at 3 am 2 play with her for 2 hrs before he gets ready2 go all weekends he makes her run she likes it till she limps then he stops ofc its his baby lol)

Serveral people I know doesn't like banfield but I know some 1 who likes it she got their insurance on her pets

Parvo is a virus that attacks the lining of the digestive system. It causes dogs and puppies to not be able to absorb nutrients or liquids.

Yeah, we also looked into the insurance through Banfield and then I looked up some things online about it. It really didn't cover much, according to others who have had it before. I rather not even waste my time or energy arguing with them when it doesn't cover something. I rather just pay out of pocket each time I take him to the Vet.

Like I said, I don't think every single Vet there is out of their minds and looking for a scam. Just the dozen that I have ran into lately. Ha. My friends and family that have been to them before also have had nothing but horror stories.

i hate banfield. They wanted to charge me $800+ for a bunch of tests and junk for a dog I rescued of the streets.. I only had about $200 to spend so they actually cut out things that he could have went without. Didn't make sense. I take my cat to a vet near my moms house that has been around for forever and they are always cheap and friendly.. i don't know why anyone would use banfield.. its like they just try and get as much money out of you as possible. The only good thing about them is the one near us is 24hr emergency.

Yeah, I hear ya about them wanting to charge so much. When we took Doobie there because we were for sure he had Parvo; they came back with a three page list about things that they thought needed done. And I wasn't really caring at the time. All we wanted was for him to get help for being so sick. I believe that is the only good thing about them .. being open 24 hours.

"Then today I was calling around because Doobie continues licking his butt and so on." hehe this made me lol..I'm just imagining in my head having to call & tell them what the appointment was for. ;D

But I've never heard of Banfield. Is it a chain of hospitals or something? I might google it.

I use Banfield here and I love them and have never had a problem with them. I have their insurance plan and we pay the 30.00 a month for it, and rarely have I ever had to pay anything extra. I had to pay a little extra when he had his surgery to get neutered only because he was older than a year and required additional anesthesia.. but other than that.. nope their plans cover almost everything

I would agree with you 99% of the time. But they did save one of our dogs a few years back so I have to give them props for that. We were about to move and someone attacked my dog with a knife. We were told by the vet we got after we finished our move that he would of put Licorice down. But while Banfield did give me that option they also tried to save her which I wanted - and they managed to do.

I personally don't think that they saved Doobie. The only reason why we got that night's treatment there was because it was after nine oclock at night and no one else was oen and we didn't want to take the chance of him dying and waiting until the next morning. But, I know that all of the Vets that work for them aren't bad. And I'm glad that they saved your dog. :)

It was similar - I didnt know where else to take Licorice - it was early in the morning when I found her (someone literally tried to skin her alive) and in the mind frame I was in thats all that popped into my head.
The one that is near me now - has so many stupid regulations when it comes to ABT's that I wouldnt go near them. I asked about getting Roxy's nails trimmed - she's too strong for me to pin down and do her nails at the same time. She doesnt try to bite me, just manages to get away. They said that due to her being a pit the only way they would do it is to IV sedate her! Which is crap. A vet shouldnt be feeding the neg stereo-type of a breed. Luckily we found a really good vet near us that also has a grooming "spa" connected to it that does it for roughly $8.

I do know that Banfield inflates the cost of their heartworm pills by quite a bit.

Oh shit. That's pretty scary to find your dog like that. That's bull crap about when you tried to get her nails clipped. I just don't understand Vets who say that shit about Pitbulls. Any dog can be aggressive or look scary. Like Doobie is a 14 pound Dachshund and he will find any way to get away from them when they clip his nails. And trust me, when a big dog comes near him; you would have swore he was a big ass Rott or something along those lines.

something amazing.

Banfield is really more of a business than actual vet office. They get lists of what to charge people instead of determining what exactly is wrong with the pet. I've heard nothing but bad about that place.

Yeah. I have experienced and heard about how they just print out lists of shit that they want you to do to your dog. Like the time I took him in for the bug bites, they were more concerned about his nails needing to be clipped and little things like that.

When I was in school for Veterinary Technician, I heard Banfield wasn't that great. The three experiences you had seem pretty bad. Ask some of your friends or family members where they take their pets and ask how they like the place. Finding a good doctor in general is hard, but you will find those few doctors who truly care for animals. I was lucky enough to find a vet the first time around for my cat. I love the vet we have! She cares about animals and doesn't try to rip me off. I love the Vet I used to go to when I lived at home. She is another animal lover and she actually cares. I'm sure if you did a search online for Veterinary reviews you can find out how people rate them and find a good Vet to take your dog to for now on.

I understand what you mean. The Vet that we took Doobie to when he had Parvo, is the same one that we continue to take him to because he is amazing and is one of the few who truly cares for the animals. The only reason why I was thinking about taking him to Banfield today is because it's closer to home and there wasn't a wait.

I used banfield when I got my dog chichi as a puppy. I got the puppy plan and paid $20 a month for a year and it covered her shots, spay, and all her puppy visits. They were decent to us.

My mom not so much. She got a puppy the day after I got mine and wanted to do the puppy plan too. Well they wanted to give him a vaccine and the breeder left instructions with my mom about what vaccines not to get. (he is a tea cup or toy chiuahuah) My mom called our older dogs vet and they told her if he got that vaccine it would kill him. So my mom hasnt gone back since.

I personally havent had any problems with them though.

What kind of dog do you have? When I worked for Petsmart in the grooming salon they offered anal gland expression as a service if your willing to leave your dogs anal glands in the hands of a groomer and not a medical professional. I refused to do it when I worked there. I had no clue what to do or what I was looking for so I didnt want to hurt the dogs. Why risk it?

Doobie is a dachshund. That's kind of stupid that the grooming people would want to do that, even when they really weren't a Vet. I don't know.

I use Banfield as well and have the kitten plan and they did a superb job with my kitten when they spayed and declawed her. We haven't had a problem with the one by us.

This is upsetting. As soon as I got Mordecai I enrolled him in the kitten wellness plan. It was $25/month and it covered everything. He gets a check up and shot update every year for free. He got an $800 neuter for free. Anytime I have to visit the doctor I never have to pay the $30 visit fee. He gets a complimentary nail trimming and a free yearly dental cleaning. He's no longer a kitten, so he's under the cat plan and it's even cheaper. He still gets his yearly check up and shots updated for free and I still never have to pay for any visits if he needs to go in. I Also, if there is something (usually if he needs medicine) that isn't covered under the plan I get 10% off that price. The wellness plans are awesome! The people at my Banfield are the nicest people ever. Anytime Mordecai comes in they are so excited to see him and play with him. Mordie's vet is the greatest, I can tell that he really cares about animals.

I'm sorry that your experience with Banfield was bad, I hope you're able to find a good vet!

Must be nice! I think it cost a bit because, well for one, anesthesia isn't cheap and he also had to stay the night for some reason.
