I just recently got my first laptop and I'm trying to decide between Norton and McAfee (or perhaps something else).

Avast Home Edition is FREE, and Consumer Reports, and computer magazines often report that it works as well (sometimes BETTER) than most Antivirus programs that you pay for.
I've also found that Avast is updated often, and seems to eat up very little resources on our two desktops and laptop. Really like it, and have never had an infection problem since I began using it. |

I use Sophos, which I get free from Uni, its really really good, I did have AVG but couldn't do anything until it had updated each time, which got a bit annoying, it was the free version.

Ive been using windows live onecare and haven't had a problem, but i would suggest having a good comp with decent memory to use it.
