I'm not sure if this is available in all cities, but I know it is available in most. AAA is offering their Tipsy Tow Service on New Years. From 6pm NYE to 6am on NYD, AAA will tow your drunk ass and your car, to your house FOR FREE (within 5 miles). Whether you are a member or not.
Please do not be irresponsible by drinking and driving this holiday. Call 1-800-AAA-HELP for the service. Tell the operator you need a Tipsy Tow and they'll send someone. |

What a great way of describing it. |

I've never heard of this thru CAA, but I've long beeen told that calling for a tow (if you're a member) is cheaper and far easier than getting a cab on NYE.

Hate to disappoint, but this actually IS NOT true for most places (I work for AAA Road Service). The only place that I believe DOES do this is California. But most AAA clubs do not as far as I'm aware, so if you plan on relying on this service, call your local AAA first to be sure...but don't be surprised if you tell you they don't do it.

And I should add that AAA only tows disabled vehicles. So even if you are a member they aren't going to tow you just because you're drunk, your vehicle has to be broken down.

Whatever, what I do know is it is available in cities in/around Orlando, FL (my friends have confirmed this) and also around the Twin Cities Area. The AAA person in my city told me that there were a lot of metro cities participating, but the rides home are only within 5 miles.
In the Twin Cities Metro area you can also sign up for "guaranteed ride home" if you commute via: bus, train, foot, bike, carpool or vanpool at least 3x a week. This program gets you a coupon for cab fare reimbursement (up to $25) if you find yourself stuck without a way home. You can also use it for emergency bus fare. Whether your city offers the AAA service or not, don't be a dick and drive drunk! |

I did call AAA Auto Club South today (which covers Florida, Georgia and maybe a couple other states I believe, as well as Puerto Rico lol), and they confirmed that they do offer it (thought they apparently call it "tow to go" :-p). And Google told me that the Texas AAA is participating, along with Northern California (Cali is split up into 2 different clubs, I don't think Southern Cali is doing it), and I think Utah? So it sounds like a lot of places are expanding it, I remember last year almost every club I asked told me no. I do not expect my area (which is Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont) to ever offer it. We just don't have the resources to be bringing drunks home all night, frankly. The guy in FL told me they actually do it all through the Holiday season, from Thanksgiving to Jan 2nd. So, that's pretty rad. But again, people should definitely call their local AAA office to find out for sure before making this their only plan for getting home. Last year was awful because people were copy and pasting this info on facebook left and right, so all night long my co workers had to listen to drunk people say "but facebook said you tow people who are drunk!!"....and of course everything you read on facbeook must be true....

@Let It Be - This post made me laugh, I found it on Craigslist in the Grand Rapids forums. I highly doubt that Michigan would have this. But the Facebook part in the title reminded me of your post here.
" Got this from Facebook, but < Taken out > 12/28 14:17:13 it never hurts to get the word out. ***No excuses, folks. Don't drink and drive-and don't ride with anybody who does.Tipsy Tow offered by AAA: You don't have to be a AAA member, from 6pm-6am on New Year's Eve/Day they will take your drunk self and your car home for FREE (up to 200 miles free). The following AAA Clubs currently offer Tipsy Tow programs:
AAA Alabama (Statewide. Program is called “Tow-for-Life”) Auto Club of Southern California (including Hawaii, New Mexico, and Texas) AAA South Dakota (Statewide) AAA Arizona (Statewide) AAA Oklahoma (Metro Tulsa, Metro Oklahoma City, Shawnee, Bartlesville, Enid, Muskogee and Lawton) AAA Montana (Missoula, Bozeman, Helena and Billings) AAA Northern California AAA Nevada (Statewide) AAA Utah (Statewide) AAA Auto Club South (Statewide in Florida, Georgia, West and Middle Tennessee. Program is called “Tow-to-Go”) AAA Tidewater Virginia (Greater Hampton Roads area including Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, Yorktown, and Williamsburg. Program is called ‘Tow-to-Go”) Taxi Ride Programs AAA Mid-Atlantic is a key part of the “TipsyTaxi” program in the Baltimore area only. This program offers cab rides home to members and non-members who have had too much to drink. For a comprehensive list of other community programs listed state by state, please visit AAA’s DUI Justice Link Website. And it makes sense that AZ is on there... AZ is one of the WORST states to get a DUI in |

I went to the AAA website, and it tells me "AAA does NOT offer the Tow-to-Go or Tipsy Tow service in this region. If you are traveling out of state, please visit the AAA NewsRoom for a list of participating clubs."
So Wisconsin is definitely not included in this! Which is amusing to me, since we're big drinkers ;D |
