I followed her quite regularly here; I wasn't particularly close to her, but I was quite saddened by the news of her murder in 2011. I decided to look up her mother on facebook, and took a chance by sending her a condolence message. Some time passed and she hadn't replied, and I figured she had ignored it. I wouldn't blame her, after all. But I was surprised to find that, nearly a year after Sarah's passing, her mother finally replied to that message, and positively, at that. She was grateful to hear from someone that didn't know Sarah personally but still cared enough to speak up about her.
Recently, she added me as a friend on facebook, and let me know she was going to Colorado for the trial of Christopher Mainock, her ex-boyfriend and killer. The trial began on Thursday, and she has been posting updates regarding the proceedings. For privacy's sake, I won't repeat them, but I am honoured to be privy to the knowledge. I sincerely hope she and her family get the closure they need, and Christopher gets the conviction he deserves. |

Oh wow - I used to read her back in the day, and I was deeply saddened to hear of her death at the hands of that utter bastard. In fact when I first heard about it, I was in utter shock because, well, you don't expect something like that to happen with someone you're friends with online. I'm glad you made contact with her mother and I'm glad she responded to you.

I work in the court house where this trial is, well I intern there. Today they had my court case cancelled and the entire floor that this trial is on was blocked off because of all the media. I havent seen anything on the news regarding why there were all there though.

Funny, I can barely find mention of the trial on Google. I'm rather disappointed; it'd be nice to know how the media is choosing to report it.

Apparently, Chris vomited in court today during the reading of the coroner's report. I wonder if it was genuine remorse or simply to garner sympathy from the jurors. :/

Chritopher Mainock was convicted yesterday, and will be sentenced in April. The convictions include kidnap, rape, and murder. He will be sent to prison for life, without possibility for parole. From what I gather, he had been trying to play for an insanity plea. Obviously, everyone saw right through him though; the jury took only two hours to deliberate.
Justice is done, and we may finally say our goodbyes to Sarah. Rest in peace, friend. |
