So I thought I would ask this here. I don't know if anyone else here suffers from recurrent ear infections. But I am hoping someone knows how to easy the pain. I usually go in and get antibiotics because mine do not go away on their own but I have an appt. with a new ENT specialist on the 3rd and i am hoping not to go to my GP before then. (Yeah... I am 22 and still have ear problems) Anyone know any tricks to ease the pain?

A heating pad helps! I would go to the doctor though, the 3rd is a long time to wait. It could get a lot worse than if you have so many ear infections that don't generally go away on it's own. I had a lot of ear infections when I was younger but I got tubes in my ears, and my tonsils out and I haven't had one since! Also your ear infection might stop the ENT specialist from being able to really look at your ear and stuff.

I had my tonsils (one grew back) and adenoids out when I was 6 and tubes put in... then another set of tubes put in about age 9. Then another set at age 20. This is past the point of ridiculous. I just would prefer something other than antibiotics because I have been on them SO MUCH. In the last 3 years probably at least 10 times but probably more.

Put a warm wet wash cloth on your ear and down your throat right below your ear will help it drain. Or you can put some rice in a sock and heat up the sock with rice for a minute or two in the microwave and it will make it stay warm for a while if you don't have a heating pad. Also sleeping on the side that has the ear infection helps it also, and so does motrin. If you have any decongestant medicine might help relieve some of the pressure in your ear.
I can understand you not wanting to go on the antibiotics, but if you already have such a problem with them I probably wouldn't mess around with it so you don't get a really bad one.
I got the tubes in my ears and tonsils out when I was 6 too! One of my tubes fell out, and the other one they took out because it was blocked in with so much ear wax. My tonsils haven't grown back yet though. I do have a lot of problems with my ear still, but I haven't had an ear infection since then.
Do you have allergies? I have allergies and I was around a lot of second hand smoke, and now that I have moved out of my parents house my ear and throat problems aren't as bad anymore.

But heating pad is a good one! I have used it before but our heating pad isn't working anymore and I haven't been able to go find a new one.

The warm wet wash cloth helps.

Also you can make a home heating pad. Find an old clean tube sock and fill it either with rice or beans and microwave it for a minute to warm it up. Then you can use it as a heating pad. You can keep warming it up, just be careful not to warm it for too long or you'll burn it up.

Maybe this is me being stupid, lol, but I thought that heat was bad for all infections? Promoted the infection and all that?

I've never heard that, but an ear infection is mostly from fluid build up in the ear canal and the warmth makes the ear drain which will help with the pain and pressure.

My sister would always get ear infections after colds (lucky her right?). Anyway, she would put a drop of Sweet Oil in her ear and then put a cotton ball in there and it would always help. So I would try to find some Sweet Oil at your local drugstore!

I don't know if it works for ear infections, but I know if you have a lot of wax buildup then a few drops of warm olive oil is meant to help a lot. Might be worth researching that, as it may work for infections too.

Castor Oil, a few drops, in the ear will help. In a book of at home remedies, I read using a blow dryer on low help, but I never enjoyed it.

I had such a bad ear infection once that it infected the bone behind my ear. I have them all the time, but I think I'm done with anti-biotics. I always end up with an infection in my girl parts. It seems redundant to cure one infection and cause another.
