Hey,
I'm on book 7 on the sookie stackhouse series and I want to start a book list - I'm taking recommendations since I have NO clue where to start. When I create this list, ill finish to book 9 and the 10th doesn't come out in may. I don't want to start another series quite yet. Which book is your fave? By who? What is it about? What book is this? (Type - fiction, non fiction, horror, drama...etc) any other books would be good? Or any suggession how to build my book list? I like a lot of books - I don't have a favorite author is prob why I can't think of how to start a list. Thank you :-) |

Um, if you haven't read the Twilight series, you totally should. Meyer's writing is not the BEST, but it's not terrible. It's the story line, characters, etc. that make this series amazing!
I've also read all of the Harry Potter Books. Silly, I know, but I had to read the first 2 in my classes as an education major, and after that I was HOOKED! I love Christian Fiction, particularly those set in Amish settings. Not sure WHAT drew me to these books, but I absolutely love them. Beverly Lewis is my favorite author when it comes to Amish Fiction. It sounds silly, but truly their lifestyle and these stories fascinate me! I also love classics by Charlotte Bronte (Jane Eyre is my fave book EVER), and Jane Austen. You can't go wrong with them! |

Lol. I would say it's the storyline and characters which make them awful. The only characters I can stand in Twilight are Alice, Jacob and Carlisle. Bella and Edward are two of the most annoying characters I've ever encountered in a book.
Harry Potter on the other hand is amazing. And well written (unlike Twilight). And the characters are likeable! The only Jane Austen book I ever got to the end of was Emma but I did really enjoy it. I hate Pride and Prejudice and have never understood why others love it. |

I just got Pride and Prejudice. Four bucks, I figure I'll give it a go ;D
Why didn't you like it? |

You'd like the mortal instruments series, I think.
City of Bones, City of Ashes and City of Glass. It's like an amazing mix of stories. There's three total in the series. |

I have two favorite series, Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, but if you're going to read LotR, read The Hobbit first.
As for a list, I'd suggest lots of "classics". They're called that for a reason, they're timeless. Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Oscar Wilde, Mark Twain... Those are the authors you want to be reading. :) |

Fight Club is a must read always. If you haven't read it, find it and get on that. It's a top ten favourite of mine.

I know you said you don't want to start another series. That being said, I'm going to recommend one anyway!
I highly recommend the series "The Dresden Files" by Jim Butcher. There are 10 or 11 books out now and the next one comes out in April. Harry Dresden is a Wizard/supernatural detective. I guess it would be classified as urban fantasy. But they're really good mysteries (I'm a big mystery fan) and the characters in it are really good. Dresden as a narrator is really funny. There was a short lived TV series that was very loosely based on the books if you want to check that out as well. |

I am a sucker for HP, but that is a series, so don't worry!
My other fave series when you get on to them again is the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Read anything by Jodi Picoult. I love her, I love her writing and her believability and the fact that she thoroughly researches EVERYTHING she writes about. The Lovely Bones - by Alice Sebold. I hated the movie, but the book is amazing. She also wrote a book that I believe is called "Lucky". |

I've read a few Jodi Picoult books and I really enjoyed them, although I would have to say that my favorite book is actually a series of books by Stephen King titled, "The Dark Tower."

As I'm sure it's already been suggested..
Twilight is a pretty good serious. The movies don't do it justice. The Mortal Instruments Series - City of Bones, City of Glass & City of Ash (not necessarily in order). My Sister's Keeper Lovely Bones (Again, the movie does not do it justice). Harry Potters are pretty good. Laurell K. Hamilton writes VERY good books but my favorite is the Anita Blake, Vampire Executioner series. |

They get better, and darker and more grown up as you get further on. I liked book three but it was six and seven which I really loved. Book five I had to read a few times before I fell in love with it too. Four is OK.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who couldn't get into the host.
I keep trying and only make it another chapter. |

I've heard that The Host is better than Twilight... (If that's really an accomplishment...) but I'm not going to read it. Speaking of timeless classics, I'm in the process of reading Crime and Punishment (long process because I've been cut off by schoolwork and exams and my own writing, lol), and I LOVE IT.
