Ki has a solo comp coming up right before Christmas. Since she's an Alto we're having a hard time finding songs that would suit her. They don't have to be from musicals . anyone have any ideas?

Do not have her do ANYTHING from Rent. Judges tend to steer away from Rent because it's so overdone in singing and theater competitions. I know someone who would have won states competitions if she hadn't had her ensemble done La Vie Boheme. One of the judges literally told her that.
It's 500% overrated at this point in competitions. Otherwise, choose a song that's a challenge. No popular (top 40) music, and things should work out great. |

At this point she is shying away from most musicals.. She's one of two alto's in her schools performance choir (jr high) and they took the regional comp last year without any issue, and she sang a duet with her bf who is a 1st soprano - but this will be the first time she goes to regional with a solo performance.
She's been toying with Stevie Nick's landslide the last couple of days. I know I am partial since I am her mom - but the girl can sing :) |

I'm an alto too.
Edge of Seventeen is a brilliant song, but it's just Stevie Nicks, not Fleetwood Mac. Christina Aguilera songs are great if she has the ability to go up a little higher. Songs by Nancy in Oliver. Shakira songs are pretty good. My FAVE song to sing in karaoke is Black Velvet by Allanah Myles. |
