You qualify for a free state filing, too, if you are filing in a state that sponsors a Free File Program. Free File Program states include:
AL, AR, AZ, GA, ID, IA, KY, MA, MI, MN, MO, MS, NY, ND, NC, OK, OR, RI, SC, VT, WV

Just thought some of you would really be interested in that.

If you don't live in one of those states you can still file your state return for 10 bucks. Federal is free!!

I went to irs.gov and filed mine for free. I live in TX and not on that list. I didn't pay a cent and will have cash in my bank in a week from now.

So for those not in those states, try http://www.irs.gov

Good info though! Kudos for looking out for people and posting it! You rock.

That is weird! I did someone's taxes for them one year when she went to school up here in Arkansas but worked in Texas as well. It was one screwed up tax return lemme tell ya.

With TurboTax Online you get to e-file for free. You have to pay for the 'prep' you do online to get the return done. So it's not completely free. It's like $15 for federal and $35 for state. Although I got the federal 'prep' for free. Cos I'm awesome.

I did my last year for free on turbo tax. This year, using my same name, they wanted $15. IDK WHY! so I made a new account, and got to file for free. still have NO earthly idea why they wanted to charge 1 account and not the other, but i wiggled my way around it.... so, thats a heads up.. make sure it says like, free edition, because basic is not free! :-D happy taxing... mine should be here in like, 10-20 business days. well, my bank account. my last w2 got here today and i instantly added it all in there. WOOT! haha.

You can file federal returns for free at http://www.taxact.com/

State charges, but I THINK (don't quote me on this, though) it's o nly $10. Federal=free, though. Completely and totally free.

I went to taxslayer. It was $9.95, because I did my state. Federal was totally free. My boyfriend's brother just used turbotax about an hour ago, and when it all added up, it was something like $74 they wanted from him. I'm sorry, I do my taxes myself so I don't HAVE to pay those jacked up fees.
