Windsor -- Police today said a 32-year-old Tilbury, Ontario, woman has been charged with abandonment after allegedly leaving her infant daughter in a hot car while gambling at Caesars Windsor Casino.

Windsor Police today said Thi Tran-Franklin will be summonsed to appear in court on one count of abandoning a child and failing to provide the necessaries of life for allegedly leaving the 6-month-old girl in her car while she played the tables Thursday.

Police spotted the infant unattended and strapped into a car seat in Tran-Franklin's 1999 Chevy Malibu in the parking structure of the casino at 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

Casino surveillance video showed the mother pulled into the parking structure at 10:55 p.m. Wednesday and entered the casino, leaving her child in the car. She then returned to the car at midnight and peeped through the window before re-entering the casino to continue gambling.

A half hour later, the child was spotted by security and the mother was paged over the casino intercom system to return to her vehicle.

The child spent nearly two hours in the car with cracked windows. It was about 70 degrees outside, police said.

When pulled from the car, the child was in good health, uninjured but sweating profusely.

After her child was taken into custody by the Children's Aid Society, police said they denied the woman's request to re-enter the casino to cash in her chips.

Police said she admitted she had a gambling addiction.

Police said Tran-Franklin left her home earlier that day to visit friends in Windsor and her husband was not aware that she stopped at the casino to gamble.

Unfortunately this happens a lot. Its worse when it happens in the winter and the children freeze to death

or when it's hot and they don't roll down the windows, and the children boil to death.

She shouldn't get the baby back ever and go 2 gamble annoymous

ugh that's crazy...I feel so bad for the baby.

if she had a hubby why didnt she just leave the baby with him? also i wonder how many other times she has done this before and not gotten caught.
