I've always had a clicky jaw, as did my nan. I recently discovered one of my good friends has one too, and it appears to be pretty common.

Does anyone out there also have a really cool clicking jaw like me? ;)

I only ask because I have jaw pain at the moment, I think from clenching my teeth in my sleep, and I have developed a new click on the other side of my jaw, but not near my ear! It feels like it's coming from the back of my mouth, so who knows what that is ;D

My husband has a clicky jaw and it drives me mad! Chewing anything all I hear is "click..click...click....click" :P. He can also put my finger by his ear and I can fill it popping/clicking. He finds that hillllarious, lol.

Yes, I have a loose jaw but it only clicks when it wants to.

I was with a guy who ground his teeth in his sleep. It is quite bad for joo.

Back of the mouth clicking probably still indicates it is just the jaw.

Yeah my dentist has never noticed it so I think it's just clenching... I have sometimes had jaw cramp in my sleep which is HORRIBLE! It always coincides with a dream but you remember the pain when you wake up... bizarre. And I've also woken up before and not been able to open my mouth properly... thankfully these are pretty rare but if my jaw pain continues I think I may visit my dentist!

Sounds like a small form of sleep paralysis perhaps.

if i woke up with a sore jaw from sleep paralysis i would be lucky. i think it's more scary mentally than anything.

My jaw locked up once where i could verly open my mouth.

Mine doesnt click, but it dislocates if I open it even wide enough to yawn. Luckily, it doesnt hurt, and it pops back in no problem, but its good to freak out dentists hehe.

I've had jaw issues for... aaaaages. Ever since my wisdom teeth started coming through when I was 16/17 (I'm 22 now), my jaw hurt on both sides at the back. And then 18 months ago it was very clicky and I clicked it too much and then it... locked on the right side. Like I couldn't open it all the way. Then a few weeks later with some gentle coaxing I FINALLY managed to unstick it , when I was taking a huge bit from a sandwich. xD

To this day my right jaw is always clicky and almost always painful.

Not only that, but for years (well at least months) I KNOW that I've been placing my jaw in a weird position when I sleep... like I slide the bottom of it to the left side. It must be hell for my muscles, being in that warped position for so long while I'm unconscious. xD I wake up with it like that a lot of the time. It's rather annoying!

Sorry 'bout the sob story. xD But I'm hoping someone has advice for us! Although I do intend to see my dentist soon about it.

Surely your dentist noticed at your first check-up after it started?

He noted that my gums looked a bit swollen, but that was about it. That was probably 2 years ago now.

slap him, very hard, something most dentists deserve

Hahaha, yeah, it was pretty frustrating when he said "Mmm, your gums at the back do look a bit swollen" and then he didn't expand on it. xD I was thinking, "Yes, and?!?!"

He did mention getting my wisdom teeth taken out, but apparently, back then, mine hadn't come out far enough to get taken out with safety. He said to wait 18 months or so for them to grow away from the facial nerve, else the surgery would be too risky. It's been >18 months, hence my desire to go back in the next few weeks. xD

I'm having mine like capped, where they clean the tooth then cover it in the white coating they use for fillings so they can't go bad so I wont ever need them removing.

It is very common. I use to have a clicky jaw when I was 17 but it stopped after a while. That's after I had all four my wisdom teeth removed.

Gosh I'm 21 and only have 2 wisdom teeth through ;D

hee my jaw clicks too.. i used to have the room quiet and pop my jaw for my friends and they could hear it accross the room... its called TMJ http://www.entnet.org/HealthInformation/tmj.cfm you can actully get a surgery for it, from what i hear the dentist puts you out breaks your jaw and resets it and wires your jaw shut.. lol no way i can have my jaw wired shut... and the surgery isnt that sucessfull... so i kept my clicky jaw lol

I dont reccomend that though. Sometimes it can make it worse

Yeah, when I get a Wendys hot dog I get too greedy and my jaw locks up trying to eat too much at once... oh Wendys hot dogs.. why do you mock me.....

For some reason I didn't know Wendy's had hot dogs! How little I actually know about life...

Over here in Aus they do. Wendys Hotdogs are my fav... but I have to be careful when eating them :P

Haha we definitely don't have Wendy's hotdogs in the US, I used to work there. At least not around where I live anyway, but I think McDonald's used to have hotdogs. Weird.

I was looking at Wendy's hotdogs last weekend. For some reason I don't think I can stomach them any more :'(

As for clicky jaw...my sister has that...she has to eat super slowly...poor thing.
