Day Seven Peddlin' Heaven

02/07/2011

Week One of torture has gone and passed and surprisingly I'm not really feeling all that awful about it. I've been doing a lot of cross-training (cycling, weight lifting, hiking, etc.) and I think that's helped keep my mind off the running thing.

A really, really nice road bike fell in to my lap last week and as of Friday I've been attached to it. It's just superb in every single way and it's such a relief to finally have a reliable form of transportation for the remainder of my time here and then a great recreational vehicle for later when I'm doing something much cooler in a much cooler place. The point of all that was to say that it's been helping me stay motivated toward reaching my goal because it's just so fun to go down hills. Seriously the fastest bicycle I have ever stuck between my legs. It's comparable to riding a motorcycle, but since I don't have that privilege for the next two years this will have to suffice.

Let's see... I didn't run the full amount I was supposed to on Saturday, but I'm not really worried because I also lifted weights for an hour, then ran, then rode my bike around, then went on a hike, and then fell flat on my face and realized how sore I was. It was a full day, but a day so full of endorphins that I wish it could be everyday. Or maybe two days of work per week and then five of fun. Maybe that will be my next goal after this whole fitness thing boils over.

Today I've got to run again, but I'm looking forward to it. I'll be looking more forward to it once I acquire some worthy running shoes, but overall I'm still feeling really great. Unfortunately I start school next Monday so I'll have that much more on my plate, but it's OK. I think that as long as I continue to remain dedicated to my running goals I'll be fine.

I'm taking Wed., Thurs., Fri. off from work this week so I can play with some of my friends who have been gone for a while and who I'd really enjoy pulling further in to all of my silly obsessions (bikes, bikes, hiking, bikes, running, bikes, food). The weather has just been so so nice considering it's the second month of the year. Perhaps part of why I adore AZ so much.

This is sort of a pointless entry other than to cheers myself to a new week and hope that I can continue on this incredibly motivated, optimistic, happy track. No pun intended.

i'm exhausted from reading about all of the working out you did in one day, let alone actually participating in it! good for you, though. i refuse to run, so i shall live vicariously through you. don't let us down!
