Didn't I say I'd tell you someday?

08/03/2010

Sometimes I remember things and sometimes I forget...
I'm gradually getting around to being a little more organized. I have most of the birth announcements sent out and a couple of the pictures that I wanted to pass out to family are taken care of. I've also gotten most of the thank you cards sent out as well ... does anyone else ever feel awkward writing a thing like a thank you card? It's like "Hey you're awesome... you gave me stuff! Well done you!"
So yeah maybe I was kind of trying to empty my brain so I could think of a way to write a thank you to a friend of my mom's at work that I don't really know that well and I feel weird cause she's one of the people who felt that my mother would end up raising my daughter and that maybe it would be best if I didn't keep her. So... even though she's super nice to us now... she can be judgmental and condescending. Which I don't deal with well... at all lol.
And I remembered that I said I'd share the story of when I went into labor with Bloop. So I'm doing that now...
Once Upon a Time...
It was about 3am when I woke up with a few mild contractions. Nothing unusual... they might have been a little stronger than a normal twinge otherwise known as the lovely Braxton Hicks contractions. And of course I had to pee lol.
So I got up and went... but I kind of had to stop in the hall way and take a few breaths... That was a little weird.
But I waited it out and the contraction faded out and the next two weren't exactly regular.... One came again in about 10 minutes but wasn't nearly as strong and then the next one was barely hurting... So I took care of business so to speak, got a drink and went back to bed.
Fell asleep for maybe an hour and a half before the contractions really started.

I got up and walked around a little bit at 5:15am... I remember what time it was because I was trying to time the contractions... wasn't really working so well since I couldn't think straight through them lol.
It was at that point taht I almost fell over once or twice... and I decided it was time to go.

So at 5:45am I got my bag all ready to go and I went in and woke my parents up.
The bag had been packed already but I just double checked it to have something to fuss over to calm myself down a little in between contractions.
Crazy had me call the Dr but I couldn't talk because one hit... That would be the point where my mom was like "Well they're just going to send us home... Better safe than sorry though."
Because I had had a similar spell like this a few weeks ago... and I'm not very good at explaining the amount of pain I'm in to people. I seem to have a pretty high tolerance for pain... I just kind of suck it up and deal. :/

We got to the hospital at about 6:30am... they ladies in the triage labor and delivery place where so nice.
I was admitted to the hospital at about 8am after the Dr on call came in and checked me.
The day before at my appointment I had been dilated 3cm... when the attending checked me... I was 6cm at least.

They got us set up in a nice room and by that point I had decided that I wanted to have an epidural.
I was hungry and tired and knew that I might have a long labor since it was my first baby. So I talked to my mom about it for a little while and after they got my IV set up (poor Suzanne my nurse had a hell of a time with my Ninja veins ) I asked for the anesthesiologist to be called in.
I'm not going to lie... the epidural SUCKED. Big needle going into any part of me... I'm not a fan. No I didn't see the needle. But it still hurt like a son of a bitch. And I flat out wanted my mommy. But they had her leave the room cause it's one of those rules that don't make sense when you're in pain and tired... and you want your mommy lol.
I can understand having her leave now... and Suzanne stayed with me and helped me bend my back the right way and all that.
It took like three pokes for the guy to get it right.
But I felt a ton better after that lol.

My dad came back to the hospital around 11am. He'd gone home to get some sleep and take my little brother to work.
I was a little (try a really big lot) upset that my brother was going to work... but I can understand it in a way.
It was his first day on the job at a new place.
And the Dr said that even though I was contracting nicely, it could take up to ten more hours before they would start to worry about the baby's health. So Colin went to work, my dad came back at about 11am, I made my parents go get lunch shortly thereafter, and I took about an hour long cat nap lol.
I wasn't going to sleep, I watched a little tv... but the only thing that I was interested in was a cooking show... and I wasn't aloud to eat anything. So I was starving seeing as I hadn't had anything in my stomach since the glass of apple juice I had at 3am.
So instead of torturing myself with watching food on TV I took a little on/off nap lol

Krista came to be there with us because she had the day off. Ironically she had said to send the baby a memo the day before, so that she could come see her on her day off.
So she stayed and kept my dad and my brothers company while I was pushing.

I was starting to get nervous because it seemed like my mom's friend Tricia wouldn't make it because my Dr came in and checked me right after lunch, and said it looked like I'd be ready to push by about 2:30pm.
I really wanted Tricia (and my brothers who were both still at work) to be there.
But her flight got in on time and she called from the airport, so she didn't even go check in. Just drove right to the hospital.
My brothers both made it too. But by the time they got there (close to 4:30pm I think) I was kind of focused on not throwing up again (epic fail... twice) and pushing out a baby.

It really wasn't too bad... Just a lot of my Mom, Tricia and the nurses telling me how good I was doing. And my Dr making comments about how I was handling it better than some of his patients that day. Not that I blame them. Apparently I was one of 5 moms treated by that practice who went into labor that day. The other 4 all ended up having C-sections.
I guess I lucked out with that.... it felt strange. And I ended up with stitches.
But I got a daughter.
So... I win.

The End

RYC: They are scrapbooks with adhd I can't sit still long enough to fill out an entire scrapbook, so I stick with small books that I can make in an hour or so.

If you end up making one, I'd love to see the end result!
