apparently i haven't written in a week and a half. may is flying.
i had a wonderful weekend. i left straight from work on friday and headed up to my mom's. it's always lovely to see my mom, but the real reason for the trip was that lindsay was also going to visit her parents for the weekend, and our parents live 2 blocks from one another. i got up in time for a late dinner friday evening, and lindsay came over with sullivan. i hadn't seen them since july [far too long!] and sully is so big now! he's a little man! he walks and talks and is just the cutest baby in the world. unsure how she'd react to a miniature human, i brought dora out, but put a leash on her. sullivan loved her, and just kept saying "dog" and "bella" [their dog's name is bella so the words are interchangeable in his mind] while "petting" her. they're about the same height, i guess, and it was just too cute to see sully patting her on the nose, giggling "bel-la! bel-la!" as dora just stood there and loved the attention. i was really proud of her actually. not that i ever thought she would bite or attack or anything, she's incredibly gentle, and i would never have her around my best friend's toddler if there was a legitimate fear, but still. no jumping, no barking, not even any licking. she just stood there and let him play. it gives me hope for when i have babies, that she'll just chill out and let them all over her. i'm really sad that i didn't think to take pictures, or video, as that was the only time i saw sully all weekend.
saturday morning, mom and i went dress shopping. i tried on a few at the boutique in town. mom loved one, but none of them really wowed me. we went to another shop in the next town, and long story short walked out after waiting an hour to be seen, despite having made an appointment. pissed me right off. i want to buy a dress elsewhere, and go back pretty woman-style all "you work on commission, right? big mistake. big. huge!". assholes.
on the bright side, we went to harvey's for lunch, then across to the street to the grocery store where i had to fight for parking with this:
yep, i really do come from the type of place where a large man in jogging pants drives his riding lawnmower (and trailer) to the store to buy hot dogs. awesome.
that afternoon, lindsay came over again while sullivan napped. my mom had ordered me some wedding dresses from sears, so i invited her to join us for a little dress modelling party. it was the first time linds has seen me in a wedding dress, in person. i've been sure to take pictures of everything i've tried on, whether i loved it, liked it, or hated it, whether it fit or not, everything - but it's just not the same. i had 3 dresses to try, so i started with the one i knew i'd like the least, and even it had linds tearing up and squealing about how beautiful i looked. it was adorable. i love that girl, and i'm so glad she's my matron of honour. after prancing around in wedding gowns for a little while, i busted out my henkaa dress and won lindsay over with it. she's as in love with the look and concept as i am. we didn't take nearly enough pictures of the different strap styles we tried, but we had a lot of fun, nonetheless.
here's me and my girl, reunited after way too many months [nearly a year!] apart:
saturday, my mom and i grilled lamb chops, mushrooms, zucchini, and broccoli, and ate our faces off. it was the best meal i'd had in a while. soooo delicious. we took dora for a nice walk after dinner, just as the sun was going down. there's a field beside my parents' house where she just went mental and ran around in circles for 15 solid minutes. she's beautiful to watch, even if she is sort of an idiot.
mom and i went in the hot tub both nights that i was there, and it was lovely to sit out in the warm water and cool night air, and just chat about anything and everything on our minds.
sunday we went to walmart, and i bought a bathing suit. well, a tankini top, for which i will get black bottoms. they had a style of bottoms that i liked, but didn't have black ones in my size. anyway, i LOVE the top. love it. it's adorable and fits wonderfully, with a cute little flair at the bottom. it's been literally years since i bought a bathing suit and loved it. this is huge.
linds came by for another visit that afternoon, again while sully napped. after she left, mom and i gave my car a quick spray-down, since my step-dad had the pressure-washer out already. for anyone who hasn't seen the glory of mia the kia, here she is:
i left in time to get back to toronto by dinner. it was nice to see josh when i arrived. i like that we miss each other a little, even if we're just apart for the weekend. but i also like that we're not (generally) too needy when we're apart.
just to remind y'all how cute we are, here's a picture of us at the jays' game, opening weekend.
