you guys know there's a difference between sex and gender, right?
because there is.
nutshell version: "sex" refers to biological/physiological traits. sex is your reproductive organs, your hormones, your chromosomes - xx or xy. essentially, what is male or female.
"gender" describes roles or characteristics attributed by culture or society to be appropriate for a man or a woman. essentially, what is masculine or feminine.
sex and gender are closely related, and MOST times, your sex and your gender jive, but not always.
so, to any moms out there having an anatomic ultrasound: you're finding out the baby's sex, not necessarily their gender.
this has been a public service announcement. |
