things which are happening and/or have happened:
- work continues to go well. i feel like i'm starting to pick things up a little better, and am gaining confidence in my imaging again, bit by bit.
- yesterday was my birthday. jesus stole my thunder this year, but we had easter dinner with my parents and brother, so it was decent. mom forgot the salads in the fridge until we left, and forgot to give me easter candy (she texted me as i was halfway home). oops.
- thursday after work i drove to london. long story short we had the worst service ever at jes's going away party, but it was wonderful to see her, regardless. i spent the night at stacy's, and it was great to catch up with her, and spend time with her husband the next morning before i left. it might have been the longest amount of time i've talked with adam one-on-one in all the time they've been together (since high school).
- sophie was spayed on tuesday. long story short, when i got back from london on friday, i thought her incision looked not so nice (lumpy swelling, weeping clear fluid). josh assured me i was crazy, and she wasn't red, or hot, or seemingly in any pain so i left it. saturday, the incision site hadn't improved. josh agreed i should call the vet. naturally, the long weekend meant that every vet clinic was closed; the answering service had the vet on call contact us. he offered to meet us at a clinic, making sure i knew that there would be an emergency call-in fee ($175) plus a charge for antibiotics or whatever else was necessary. he suggested the alternative of warm salt water compresses, polysporin, and calling back if things got worse. by sunday morning, the incision itself didn't look bad, but the lumpy swelling hadn't gone away, and i convinced myself that she had herniated at the incision site and was going to need more surgery, etc.
i had already booked a follow-up appontment for tomorrow evening, but josh called this morning and took her right in instead. you can't imagine the relief i felt when i called him at lunch and he told me that it was nothing to worry about. the vet wasn't concerned, knew immediately that it was just some fluid build-up. she extracted some of it and showed josh, she said it's harmless and should go away within the week. she didn't even entertain the thought of a hernia. we'll take sophie back again next week, for another check.
- i'm helping out with roller derby this weekend. i'm the jam timer, so i'm sort of a big deal. i get a whistle and everything.
- i'm hoping to assemble our patio furniture this weekend. we just bought a little set, but it will be perfect for our little deck, and it will be so nice to sit outside now that it is finally getting warm out.
