at the start of baseball season, my co-worker asked me to teach her the sport. she's an immigrant who has picked up most north american things, but was never taught even the basics of baseball. i took on the challenge, expecting her to lose interest after a week or two. she didn't, and now knows not only the rules, but key teams, players, and even managers, and some basic stats.
last night, i took her to her first game. i considered it a 3 strikes against game, in that the jays lost, the dome was closed, and the crowd was almost embarassingly small [monday night + stanley cup final]. despite that, she had a great time. she wants to hit another game asap. she wants to bring her husband, who is now interested in baseball because she's gotten so excited over it. she's stoked to buy a jays shirt with her favourite player's number on it.
it's a weird thing to be proud of, but i am. she's a convert, and it's largely thanks to me.
she's also 7 months pregnant, and has promised i can take her baby boy to games. teehee. |
