Not a whole heck of a lot to say about yesterday. Got up early, as is the usual for me these days, got my shower and got dressed, then woke Corri up to take her to her appointment. We had a little bit of a wait, but it wasn't too awful. I brought my latest Shopaholic book to read and I was really cranking through the pages. Corri got another bag full of samples because she's got no insurance and no money for the meds, and she hasn't heard back yet from the drug companies about whether or not they will pay for her prescriptions. I guess the process takes longer than we thought. At any rate, she's drugged up for the next month and when she goes into rehab, she needs to contact the health department to let them know she's in rehab so they don't close out her case file. The meds she's on are the same ones I take, Cymbalta and Geodon, and they seem to be helping her in the same way they help me. It doesn't stop the highs and lows, but it does make them a little less extreme. She did tell her doctor that she was continuing to drink on the meds, and of course she got lectured, but unless she's drinking when she's out with Jason, she's got no alcohol anywhere in this house. We've checked.
After the doctor appointment, we drove to the library and she picked up the book she's got on hold and dropped off the two books I finished reading. I love our library. Aside from the fact that it's huge and crammed full of my favorite thing in the world - books, there's also an automated thing where you can call in to renew the books you've checked out. All the ones I checked out got renewed again until November 22, except for one, so I'm going to be paying late charges on that one. It's one reason why I'm trying to zip through the Shopaholic books. It's the last one in the series and I'm reading them in order. Thank goodness the late fees are only $.15 a day.
Once we got back home, she proceeded to starting dinner in the crock pot. Oh my gosh. She made the BEST beef stew with potato dumplings I've ever tasted! It's been so long since I've had beef stew anyway, but this was just mouth-wateringly good. She got the recipe out of my Family Circle magazine. Actually, she's been cooking things from recipes she's found in all my magazines. I normally don't do magazine subscriptions, but I got a thing in the mail for Read for the Cure, and since 100% of the proceeds went to breast cancer research, I picked up subscriptions to four of my favorite magazines that I hardly ever got to read because I wasn't spending the money on them at the store. I'm glad my sister is putting them to good use! Family Circle, by the way, has THE best recipes of any of them, and that's the one Corri has been mostly using. There's another recipe for Chicken Teriyaki stew that she's going to be trying, probably after our next shopping trip.
I spent the day doing dishes and laundry. I kind of hate the fact that Al leaves all the dishes for me to do after he comes home and eats dinner, but what can I do? I suck it up and do them. And since Corri is doing the majority of the cooking around here, I guess I really can't bitch too much.
As it turned out, I don't have enough money to take Jericho for his vet appointment on Friday. I had to call the vet to reschedule. Al is going to pay the vet bill when I take him on the 15th, but he gave me a lecture about how much I paid to the electric company to keep our power on, instead of just paying what he told me to pay. I paid half, just to make the other half easier for him to achieve. He shouldn't complain. Anyway, I need to get about five more pills for Jericho, and the vet tech is going to call me back to let me know when I can pick them up. I have enough to get him to his appointment, minus those five pills/days, and we don't want him going off them or else he has to start all over again, and honestly, I cannot afford that. We're not talking a lot of money here, but still, $53 a visit for the blood work is $53 I can be paying on something else.
The second half of my Kohl's Christmas shopping order came in yesterday, but still no second Bears lap desk. I bought one for Mom for Christmas, but I wanted one too. I do a lot of writing and reading and can't always sit here at the desk to do it. The lap desk is going to come in handy. I had to call Kohl's and tell them the packing slip said two were shipped, but I only received one. The guy I spoke to was very apologetic. What he did was credit me back the price of the one I didn't receive, and then reorder it for me. Turns out, this item is now on sale, so I get the sale price, plus 15% off for the inconvenience, and free shipping. I made out on the deal, so I can't really complain about not getting it right away.
Al had a meeting with three of his managers the other day and they are moving him to another section at work. He's gotten a bit of a reputation as a "cleaner," meaning he cleans up other people's messes and gets rid of employees who aren't doing their jobs or who won't work as he trains them to work. That's the thing with him, either people rise to the occasion and do what they are supposed to do, or they get gone. He documents EVERYTHING and they screw themselves over. That's how he gets rid of them. At any rate, this means Al is going to be working longer hours. He already goes in an hour early every day, and sometimes they put him on the clock right away, or sometimes they don't. It sounds like they're going to be putting him on the clock early for a good long while, plus keeping him later at night. From the sound of it, and I could be wrong, they may be looking at promoting him somewhere down the line, although they've been dangling THAT particular carrot in front of him for years already and nothing has come of it yet. They told him he needs to make himself more visible with one of the higher up VPs, too. See, Al is Navy to the core, and he follows his chain of command, so he really doesn't have interaction with the VP. Now they are forcing the issue. He's going to have to break how he looks at things and does things. It's going to be interesting, that's all I can say. I've been telling him to do this stuff for years already, and he has never listened to me. Maybe he'll listen to them.
The credit union called about my loan application yesterday, too. Would you believe, they want me to have a qualified co-signer for a $2500 loan? I haven't had a co-signer for anything since I was 19 years old and got my first car! I called my brother Bob and said, "You know how I co-signed your boat loan...." and he laughed. Then he decided that instead of me getting the Acclaim, he's going to look for something else for me that will at least come with a warranty, and he has no problem co-signing for me if he has to, which is good. It's time for a little payback. Thank heavens he works in the car business. He hasn't steered me wrong yet, if you'll pardon the pun.
I have to say, right now, despite our money issues, and even despite the fact that Al really doesn't want Corri living with us but made the decision for her to stay anyway, and despite the fact that I'm hardly ever going to see my husband because of his job, life is pretty good. There's not a lot happening, just the daily bits and pieces of life, and I much prefer that to the trials and tribulations we had been living with because of Corri's drinking problem and my illnesses and issues.
I like it when life is good. Maybe life always has been good, despite the bad things that happen, and I just needed to readjust the way I think and react to things in order to develop this positive outlook.
Don't you just LOVE this tag for NoJoMo? I think this is my favorite one out of all of them. I used to try changing them up everyday, but I think I'm going to stick to this one and one other for the whole month. This purple moon and forest scene just trips my trigger for some reaon. |
