The Reason for Everything | 12/13/2010 |
Not a lot to say about yesterday. It snowed. A lot. The day was crap. A lot. My Bears lost. A lot. And I lost my fantasy football match up to Leisah. By a lot. Damn Aaron Rodgers going out with a concussion in the second quarter of his game after only giving me one lousy stickin' point, and the Tennessee Titans gave me NO points on Thursday night. I lost by a lot. Congratulations, Leisah! You ended my 12 game winning streak. LOL
I was in a rather pissy mood after the Bears big loss, but it went away quickly enough when Al and I started tidying up the living room to set up his stereo. We stopped at storage on Saturday to grab one of the glass end tables Mom gave us, and the stereo fits perfectly upon it. It has a nice sound. Al was like a little kid, not knowing what to play first, as he went through his vinyl to play some of his albums. By the end of the night, we were dancing together in the living room to some of his old R&B albums. And then we went to bed before midnight.
Early morning for us today because I had a podiatry appointment at 9:30 and Al had to get up and shovel snow and toss salt onto the driveway and sidewalk. It's colder than a witch's tit in a brass bra out there. I was grateful to get back into the house where it's nice and warm.
I should be watching my DVR'd television shows today, but instead I'm playing the stereo. I wanted to listen to my Taylor Swift CDs, and now I've got the radio going since waking from my nap. For some reason, I was exhausted this afternoon and really needed to lay down. I wound up sleeping for about two hours. But now I'm awake and here I am.
Today's chapter in my book is about there being a reason for everything and the reason is everything is for the glory of God. We're created for God's glory, to bring him glory and love and praise in everything we do. The perfection of how the world and universe work is for his glory. The beauty of the flowers and trees, the changing of the weather, everything created is meant to be for the glory of our God.
The book discusses ways we can bring glory to God. We bring him glory by worshipping him, by loving others, by becoming like Christ, by serving others with our gifts, and by telling others about him. Living the rest of our lives for the glory of God requires a change in priorities, in our schedules, our relationships and everything else. Sometimes it means choosing a difficult path instead of an easy one.
Point to Ponder: It's all for him.
Verse to Remember: Romans 11:36 - For everything comes from God alone. Everything lives by his power, and everything is for his glory.
Question to Consider: Where in my daily routine can I become more aware of God's glory?
I think I'm always aware of God's glory. But in my daily routine, I can change certain things. Certainly, adding prayer to my day, which I try and remember to do more often lately, is one way. I try and worship him in all I do. Or at least in most things I do. I still have my areas of sin that I'm struggling to overcome. But I can remember to try and give God thanks for food before I eat, for another day when I wake up in the morning, and I do try and thank him for my friends and family on a daily basis.
Instead of complaining about the snow and winter, I can try to remember that even those things happen for God's glory, because while it's cold and the earth sleeps, the snow brings water in the spring to revive all the things that are sleeping during the winter months. When I go out walking, I can see the visible signs of God's glory in the trees and living things around me.
Maybe this is a simplistic approach, but perhaps it doesn't need to be as complicated as some people like to make it. St. Therese of Lisieux worshipped God in her little way, so perhaps I can worship him in mine.
