I am so frustrated over derailment from people who choose to get lost within their own privilege. A person posted a legitimate concern over people of color barely being recognized in a sea of white people on a cosmetic company's packaging. That serves as a reminder that people of color often don't fit within their "beauty ideals." It also makes them feel they are not a customer the company is interested in. So of course some shit stains who aren't persons of color come in to say that there is "no reason to be offended," "I don't get caught up in that race stuff," "it is 60s inspired," and my favorite, "they've added a few poc in their packaging, how is that not enough for you people???" I can't imagine being so ignorant and allowing my rose colored glasses to play in passive-aggressive racism. I'm white as hell and can't stand that most white people want people of color to be silent so they don't have to hear it. Speaking out against the majority who'd rather keep you down for their own cushy comfort is 100% legitimate. I'm embarrassed for my race as a whole so much, more often than not. |
