i got mine done about 4 months ago. i used listerine which is what my piercer said to do....do it often. my tongue turned whiteish and i panicked but it was back to normal color a couple days later. i also brushed my tongue (as weird as that sounds) when i brushed my teeth hoping to get rid of some of the white....i cant remember if it worked or not...just make sure you clean it!!! rinse at least 5 times a day. im one that worries about my piercings all the time so i took a q-tip and soaked it in listerine and cleaned the actual bar in my tongue. its fine now even though i still clean it...just not as often. the only problem i had was even after the healing time and up to this day i cant drink certain beers because it aggravates my tongue and makes it swell but that was just me have fun and dont rush the healing process....remember the mouth is the fastest healing part of your body. my piercer told me i think 8 weeks for leaving in the original piercing....i did mine in half the time. have fun with it!!

You should rinse with mouthwash after everything you eat, drink or smoke for like a week. It takes time to heal so leave it in until the swelling goes down. Avoid anything carbonated. And avoid oral sex til it's healed!

Well, my advice is, ten minutes after you get it done, don't go try to eat a sandwich and fries from mcD's.. I did that, like an idiot, and wondered why I hurt myself.

Eat soft, easy to chew foods for a few days. It takes some time to get used to, and man, it HURTS to bite that sucker right after you get it done.

I used some "pro-health" or something by Crest. It was the easiest on my mouth.

Listerine works, but the alcohol in it slows healing, so, I recommend using crest pro-health mouth wash. That being said, you aren't supposed to drink any alcohol for the next 4-6 weeks because it will slow the healing process, and especially not beer because the yeast used in it can cause an infection. It's gonna take 4-6 weeks to heal. You need to use the mouth wash everytime you put something in your mouth that isn't water for the 6 wks. When I got mine done I drank a lot of slushies / ate a lot of cold things because that will take down the swelling. My piercer told me to go out and get a slushie from sonic right after, actually. lol Um. Basically you'll know when it's healed because it won't be sore anymore. I can't think of anything else. lol. Have fun with your new piercing!

yeah...i went out and bough a bunch of ice pops...they helped. sonic ice is the best!!! and drinking liquor (as bad as it sounds) helps a little anyway because it kills some of the germs.
