New Year's

01/01/2009

Today is the last day of yule.
This is the beginning we have been preparing for these last twelve days.

The Wild Hunt wraps up, our ancestors go home. The gods and the world pick up their burdens, as must we.

Ancient ones, esteemed kindred, we have welcomed and sheltered you these last twelve days. We have honoured and celebrated you in thought, drink and song. A gift looks for a gift. Before you depart, we ask for your blessings. For the new year, to keep us hale and whole during the long winter, that we may continue to honour you by our actions as we move forward.

Having finished our review of the dead year, we now boast ourselves for lessons we’ve learned, things we’ve accomplished.

I learnt to take care of myself.
I learnt the value of privacy, and that I am not obligated to tell anyone anything, and how nice that feels.
I learnt to walk away, even when it hurt, rather than dragging out something that was obviously unhealthy.
I learnt that sometimes things don't get better, and how to live with that.
I learnt that I'm not going to die, and so better start living with an eye on the future a bit.
I payed off my laptop!
I found a home, and made it a home.
I managed to avoid killing most of my plants.
I am a kitty mommy.
I rebuilt my relationships with my family members.
I learnt that though I love my family, I don't want them to be my entire social circle. *laugh*
I have my own piano.
I let my marriage finally go, while keeping the things about it worth keeping.

Hail Frigga Mother, she who spins the threads of wyrd.
Hail Lady Norns, they who weave the threads of wyrd.

As the new year opens
Frigga hold us accountable to our work!
Urd record the passing of our work!
Verdandi watch over our work as it occurs!
Skuld bless the work we have yet to complete!

I raise a glass to my Grampa, for a life well lived, and a good death. You are forever in our hearts.
I raise a glass to Ryan, for being true to yourself in spite of everyone, even me.
I raise a glass to Russel for getting into school, and having the guts to start a new life.
I raise a glass to Ari, for your strength and beauty and sheer stubborness, in the face of everything.
I raise a glass to Elyse, for dragging every ounce of worth out of every moment of your life.
I raise a glass to Nikki, for your inspirational outlook and accomplishments.
I raise a glass to Roman, for not settling for less than you want, and for the maturity you showed in dealing with the divorce stuff.
I raise a glass to Cam (non-alcoholic), for your smile, and your strength, and everything you've accomplished.
I raise a glass to Eli, for learning from your mistakes, and going after the life you dreamed of.
I raise a glass to Michelle, doing the right thing when it sucked, and sucking the right thing when it was hard. *laugh*
I raise a glass to Hope, for singing and dancing, for being strong through horrible times, and for being the best friend I never get to talk to anymore.
I raise a glass to Richard, for getting a real job, and giving it another chance, and because I know you love me through all my periods of withdrawl even this one.
I raise my glass to Lauren and Erika, for following God and not peer pressure.
I raise my glass to Lora, for picking yourself back up as many times as necessary, and following your heart.
I raise a glass to everyone who became a mommy this year for their love and commitment, and everyone who nearly did but didn't for their strength through their pain.
I raise my glass to all my friends and family for their undying love and support, for their accomplishments and examples.

“The Old Year has gone. Let the dead past bury its own dead. The New Year has taken possession of the clock of time. All hail the duties and possibilities of the coming twelve months!” (Edward Payson Powell)

Having a piano is pretty darn awesome.

And thank you!

It is a good thing that you mentioned you are still writing here. I don't write at Bloop anymore, so I don't really do much reading either. Either you're going to have to cross post or I'm going to have to remember to come back here to read.

I think I may have to start doing lists like these.
