Ball in the Glove

01/05/2011

I needed to read - post this one for me.
If you read my regular diary, I am not a happy camper. So for a few minutes this evening, reading about baseball, makes me smile.

50. ball in the glove
10/08/2005
parity of cats in the cradle
morning the Red Sox lost

My child was born on opening day
came to the world in an unusual way
there were balls to catch
and games to play
he learned to throw before his first birthday
I was thinking for a moment
and as he grew
he'd say I'm gonna throw like you Dad
you know I love you

And the ball in the glove
and the wooden bat
little boy threw
to the man in the hat
when I come home from work son
I don't know when
but we'll practice then
you know we'll have a good time then

Well my son turned ten just the other day
he said thanks for the autograph and ball Dad
come on let's play
can you teach me to throw a curve ball?
I took his hand and said, this is the way
he threw it o.k.
and he threw again
he smiled and he said, you know I'm gonna pitch like you dad
yeah you know I love you

And the ball in the glove
and the wooden bat
little boy threw
to the man in the hat
when I come home from work son
I don't know when
but we'll practice then
you know we'll have a good time then

Well he was drafted to the RED SOX just the other day
so much like a star, I just had to say
I'm proud of you, could you pitch to me for a while
he nodded his head, and he said with a smile
Well of course Dad
I want to show you my knuckle ball, its a tease.
he blew me away, I was pleased

And the ball in the glove
and the wooden bat
little boy threw
to the man in the hat
when I come home from work son
I don't know when
but we'll practice then
you know we'll have a good time then

I've long since retired
my son was traded away
his team playing, on opening day
I'd like to see you if you wouldn't mind
he said I'll try Dad
sent me plane tickets and a note that read, didn't want you to take a cab
I want you to see my new pitch, it dazzles
and my new girlfriend, her name is Sue
it's sure nice seeing you dad, I love you
and as he struck out the last batter
It occurred to me
the crowd was standing for him.
my son waved to me, for a min

And the ball in the glove
and the wooden bat
little boy threw
to the man in the hat
when I come home from work son
I don't know when
but we'll practice then
you know we'll have a good time then
