He Was My Age

09/19/2009

Patrick,

Who is this man, with such talent
Who makes young girls look starry-eyed
And of an actress and envied beauty, evokes tears
A Dancer, one whom I closed ranks with
Til my steps were mortally wounded

A Ghost, now more in touch with the role
Whose act and accounting of the world
Which now bears a realness...
How can we not wonder at our eternity?

Who, for at least appearances sake,
For who really knows even a man's heart,
Stood, resolute and spoke with a clear voice
While facing a verdict of death

Handsome, gifted, actor, father, husband
Would I that I have 1/100 of your accomplishments
I would feel great success.
No, one thousandth...

For what song sung, "Unchained Melody"
Was never given a more perfect fit.
Whose song one note escapes my range.
And I ache to reach that plateau, but am unable.

Who leaves me wishing for that moment
Pained and straining, bittersweet
That I would, not in death receive that reward
But find that ultimate sensation

While I am alive and in love,
Be understood to that depth.
He has given the world a celluloid moments
That will not be forgotten.
