The beginning of the rest of my life

I'm alive.

09/02/2009

I'm alive.

I'm sure I could have left it at that, however, I'm sure - because I have been told so - that an update is in order. I have been trying to get something at least somewhat interesting to write about. And yes, I have had quite a bit of interesting stuff to talk about. But because my luck = crap, I have something amazing to say and don't have the time. Yet when I DO have the time...NOTHING to say.

So let's just try to update what I've been doing. I got a job. At the bookstore across the street from the university. Yes, you knew that. Last week I started school. It is a pain in the behind. Let's just say that 10 minutes between each class would be fine if one class wasn't 4 blocks away from the prior. I am in school from 9:45am to 3:20pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:45am to 1:20pm on Fridays and I work Tuesdays and Thursdays.

At 9:45, I have Irish Literature with this guy who just recently got his doctorate at NYU. It's an interesting class if you don't mind the prospect of having seen a picture of him on Facebook with only swim trunks on, speaking to his wife on his cell phone to ask if he can use her credit card to charge a few notebooks and knowing that he's only a few years older than myself.

At 11:00, I have Multicultural Literature. It potentially could be a good class if it actually followed the title. It's not multicultural...it's American literature...all about the melting pot that is the United States. That and the fact that I've read the Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin probably about 3 times....and have been analyzing it in class for the past almost 2 weeks.

At 12:15, I have Studies in Fiction. That class also seems to be intersting - minus my teacher who has these...quirks? She speaks very quickly, somewhat quietly and she has this tick that makes her blink / overblink (ya know, when you squeeze your eyelids almost too tightly to make it a normal looking eyeblink?) all the time. She's a very smart, very nice teacher, once you get past the quirks.

At 1:30, I have Urban Studies. This class has nothing to do with my major whatsoever except to keep me at full time status which in turn keeps me in the green for my father's insurance plan. It's interesting. It helps define some of the things that have been occurring in my town as well as all over the world. My teacher, also has a tick of sorts. He likes to say "ahh" a lot. Rather than "um", he says "ahh". I took a public speaking class and was taught to never say um, ah or like. Well, in excess that is. He also has an accent...which after speaking to him after class, I have been able to bypass these irritants in order to pay closer attention. That added to the idea that it's an almost 2 hour class...yeah, you get it now.

So school = most of my life now. Oh oh oh, and yeah, this semester will definately put me in over my head as, let's just say, if 31 books doesn't deter you from ever entering an educational institute ever again, I don't know what will. Yes, 31 books - for 16 weeks of class. It pretty much equates to 10 books per English class and the last book for the Urban Studies class.

Aside from school and work, I don't have much going for me. Just keeping sane and trying to get an adequate amount of sleep before ripping my hair out in school. I'm sorry I haven't been around much to update, but do know that I am reading and I am keeping tabs on you all. Yep, a total creeper! Now, if you've gotten this far, I expect a detailed note...and on the 12th, I turn 23, so I expect a happy birthday! I may be asking a bit much, but hey, I deserve it after THAT screwed up schedule for school, right?

So, I wish you all the best...and I definately have another entry that I am working on within the week...so look out for that!

Love ya!
Love me!
Kristin

Young teachers are always interesting. Your schedule sounds crazy like mine, except you also have a shitload of reading. Though... I have been reading the textbooks, so it's not like I'm not. Anyway. Don't go crazy yet.
