Get to know me!

03/20/2020

Hello! :)

I'm sure I don't need to remind you about the crisis we as humans are currently facing right now. But, it would be silly of me if I avoided the subject completely. I decided I would take up blogging as a way to stay connected (I won't lie, as an extrovert this whole social distancing thing blows!!!) but also to maybe help distract others, or spread some (much needed) positivity!

So, a little about me!! My name is Lindsey. I'm 28 living in Northern Ontario. I work for the Canadian government and am currently a student enrolled in an Accounting Payroll Admin course. I don't have human babies, but I am a momma to three cats (Athena, Rio and Dana) and a pug (Edgar Allen Pug). I have a wide variety of interests which include; Harry Potter (HUFFLEPUFF PRIDE!!!!), history (in general, although ancient history truly holds a huge place in my heart), psychology (I forgot to mention I have a B.A in Psychology), trashy reality TV (I love me some Housewives), not so trashy reality TV (you betta werq!), music (country music owns my heart, but if it bops, it bops!) The Office.... that's really only scratching the surface.

Since last year I've taken my phsyical health much more seriously and began an incredible weightloss (and I guess just overall fitness) journey. In just one year I went from 230lbs to 167lbs! One of the challenges I'll be facing with self isolation is maintaining a healthy diet and workout routine. So, with the topic of health, I want to touch on my mental health. This is where I struggle. I live with Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I was first diagnosed with depression when I was 15. I got help, learned healthy coping mechanisms, and while I still had my ups and downs, it was managable. That is until I was 23. Everything hit me at once. I didn't want to leave my room, I was crying all the time, I didn't even want to see my friends! That's when I received my new diagnosis, and began taking antidepressants. My relationship with them was awful. I would stop taking them for periods at a time, then start back up. This cycle continued for a few months. It turns out the ones I was originally given were not the right ones for me. Finally, I given a type and dosage that worked perfectly. I began to take my life back! I'm so lucky that at 27 I felt confident enough that I was able to come off them, and while I still have struggles, I've learned MORE healthy coping mechanisms and still remain off them.

So why would I bring up my mental health in a getting to know me post? Seems a little deep for my first time, eh? Well, that ties in to exactly why I'm doing this! Covid-19 (I'm sure we're all sick of seeing that word! But Harry Potter has taught me that fear of the name only increases fear of the thing itself, so I'm going to keep addressing the Voldmort of viruses by it's name!!) is scary. Actually, I don't even think "scary" is the right adjective for it. Terrifying, horrendous, petrifying, mortifying.... no, those don't seem to do it either. Anyway, we're in probably one of the scariest events anyone living has ever faced. Those with anxiety, much like myself, may not be handling it well. I don't know about you, but this has me on edge constantly. And, the fact that we literally have to go through this alone (see previous statement about social distancing blowing) isn't making this any easier, especially being an extrovert! In turn, I find that the self isolation is causing me to be depressed (anyone else find it slightly ironic that when I'm depressed I wanna be alone, but now I'm depressed because I have to be alone?)

SO, here's what I want to do! As previously mentioned, I want to spread the positivity! Yes, I'll be documenting my day, because let's face it, this IS the Lindsey Show, but I also want to do fun things! Share memes, jokes, things Edgar did, really just anything that has made me smile and might make you smile as well. Make playlists, write recaps to my favourite TV shows or movies while high wine drunk (who knows, Russian Roulette at this point), share my workout routines, whatever can make us feel more connected! If you have suggestions on types of posts you'd like to see, let me know!

That's all for now! Stay safe and wash your hands, my darlings!

I think it's the forced nature of everything that is making people miserable. Nobody likes being unable or incapable to go out, or change things. At least that's how I feel about the whole thing. Hope you're holding up x

Welcome to bloop. I don't often pop in these days and post even less.

Congrats on the weight loss! That is a huge feat!

This COVID-19 sucks I've definitely had more severe anxiety attacks lately because of it. It sounds like you are keeping upbeat, though! It helps to watch shows, read books, etc that make us feel good.

My brother got me into the Office only 2 years ago! Haha! I love it! =D Definitely a mood booster. Who's your favourite character?

Thank you!! It's been a struggle this past week though. I have my workout routine on lock, but damn, these carbs are calling my name!

Dwight's definitely my favourite but Kevin and Creed are pretty up there too! How about yourself?!
