Sudbury Saturday Night

03/21/2020

You know, I have spent a lot of weekends by myself, but there's something about being forced to have to stay in that really gets you. Truthfully, I don't even know what day it is. HA!

Today I woke up before 9 am! I took Edgar for a walk, and realized I needed toothpaste. I went and got what I needed (I even scored a pack of toilet paper!!!!) and things for dinner, then I came home. I did my workout, and then decided I needed to pour a couple out for Mr. Kenny Rogers.

That's where things got interesting. In my previous post, I had told you all that my introvert ass is struggling with self isolation. I got creative! I have a stuffed gorilla named Terrance Peterson (I'm 5'0 and he's maybe a head shorter than me), so I took him upstairs and sat him at my kitchen table with me. Then, I got my cat statue (his name is Sir Henry van Winkle IV) and put him opposite of Terrance. BAM!! I had me a party! I cranked some music, drank some wine and made the best of a really shitty situation. Oh, did I mention I was wearing a unicorn onesie the whole time?!

But you know what? It was fun! For a couple of hours I was joking with friends on Snapchat, friends were commenting on the picture telling me what they were doing and I had even received messages that it was giving folks a much needed laugh. And, quite honestly, it was nice to be an absolute goofball and spread a bit of cheer to people.

My point is this: don't be afraid to do whatever it is you need to do to give yourself an escape. I'm 28 and set up a wine party at my kitchen table with a stuffy and a wooden statue. Maybe you wanna build a blanket fort and watch your favourite childhood movie. Maybe you wanna spend a couple hours colouring Disney princesses and decorate your livingroom with them. Maybe you wanna draw pictures on your windows of rainbows and smiley faces for the people passing by to see. Either way, do it! Spread the happiness and give people (and yourself!) a smile. It's the little things like this that will help us maintain our sanity.

Stay safe and wash your hands!
