Theme 374: A Clockwork Snore-ange

A Clockwork Orange has been deemed a "classic" by millions. They love the "revolutionary" ideas involved. A corrupt goverment, science experiments, drugs and rape. That is not revolutionary. These themes are in countless movies and books. Just because a movie is old, that doesn't make it a "classic". Here are some examples of books and movies with a similar government theme: George Orwell's book 1984 and Animal Farm
The Man in the Iron Mask
HARRY POTTER
Star Wars
Sinclair Lewis's book It Can't Happen Here

There are hundreds at least. I have never read the book. I'm not even saying that the story is (that) bad. But the movie is boring. There, I said it. Some chaps in crazy outfits all hopped up on whacky milk, raping women (most of them died afterwords) for the most part, sprinkled in with an experiment including an eye gadget that will haunt me for life. I can't even let other people put eye liner on me without freaking out. Yuck.
The music was awful. Imagine getting hit over the head with a synthesizer several times. Bum, Bum,BUMMBUMM and then some classical music because it reminds the main character of horrible violence.
Oh and I know that the intense colors were "hip" for the times and anyone in that day probably WANTED a white statue of a lady with fountain nipples, but the decor hurts my eyes, more than the soul trauma.
This movie plot goes full circle, and then just pitters out at the end with a shrug like, eh same ole shit here, so i think I'm gonna reproduce because I dream of having a little asshole just like me.
Clockwork Orange 2: Next Generation, I don't think so.
In conclusion, if you want to know about it, read the book. If you haven't seen it, don't.

I watched the film years ago and remember just feeling confused by it and just a tad distrubed. I think it got most of its fame through being directed by Quentin Tarrentino didn't it?? These days every film that has his name to it somewhere seems to be considered amazing! Will have to watch it again sometime... Orwell's 1984 I love though

Thank you for your comment btw, don't know whether you mean philosophy or general reading with your question... I'm only teaching myself philosophy and I'm not a great teacher but I'm reading Nietzsche's 'Human, All Too Human' at the moment which is good and surprisingly readable. Also 'Introduction to Jean-Paul Sartre' which is equally readable. X

RYC: Probably not. I'm in a relationship with a man, and have always had relationships with men. In that department, I think a woman would be really high maintenance, so emotionally I'm not really attracted to women. But sexually, it was a fun experience and I might consider it again later on if I am not in a relationship. Thanks for commenting

I definitely know what you mean about Clockwork Orange. My ex boyfriend really liked it and I've seen it alot of times, but it was never one of my favorites. I really don't like how the main character is a total shit and the way the story line plays out you end up feeling sorry for him by the end of it, despite the awful stuff he has done.
