EYES LIP FACE COSMETICS
OK, Bloop, where are all of my makeup addicts? Am I on the wrong site for this? Hehe! Show your pretty sparkly faces, please!!
So, today our topic of discussion is ELF COSMETICS. I'm starting with a few reviews, and then some products that I am DYING to try (and one I'm SUPER excited about!!!!)
First review:
Elf REGULAR and Waterproof mascara.
Now, keep in mind my biases. As you saw on the last entry, I'm NOT going for the natural eyelash look. I LOVE long, thick false-eyelashy-looking lashes, and I am currently madly and passionately and unabashedly in love with the new L'oreal Telescopic Mascara I reviewed in the last entry.
If that's what you seek, ELF mascara is NOT for you!
The Pros: It's inexpensive and the tube is very sleek and compact. Love that.
The Cons: Everything else. The color is so pale, it got flaky throughout the day for me, and it was only a shade better than no mascara at all. Bummer.
Stars: 1 of 5. Would not repurchase.
#2.
BRIGHTENING EYE COLOR in drama.
I have another Bias here. I am OBSESSED with Napoleon Perdis and Coastal Scents for eyeshadow, so it would be hard for me to top that amazing pigmentation and BEAUTIFUL shimmer. But, hey, a girl can never have enough eyeshadow, so why not try?
The Pros: The WHITE shadow. It's fantastic. My NP and Coastal palettes are unfortunately missing a bold, white shade, and I love to use it as an eyeshadow base and a brightener for the inside corners of the eyes. So, I totally dig this. It's matte, crisp and very nice.
The Cons: The darker colors weren't very heavily pigmented and they faded a lot, even with a primer.
Stars: 3 of 5. Would probably repurchase for the white.
#3.
SUPER GLOSSY LIP SHINE KIT in Berry Yummy.
The Pros: None.
The Cons: Everything. I loathed these. However, hear me out: I can see where they would have an appeal to those looking for a fruity-tasting sheer-ish tube gloss. That's just not what I dig in my lip products AT ALL. The fake fruity scent of these was SO overpowering that I didn't want them anywhere near my mouth. Seriously awful.
Stars: 0 of 5. Would never repurchase this kit. However, I see the website does have flavors like Honey Do, Iced Latte, and Malt Shake. I would be much more apt to repurchase a gloss in a more spicy type scent.
#4.
HYPERSHINE LIPGLOSS IN FAIRY.
The Pros: I like this one a lot more than the super glossy lip shine. It's an easier application, and even though it's very sheer, it works very nice over a lipstick or a darker gloss to lighten the look. And, the scent on the hypershine is more cotton-candyish, which I felt was a lot more manageable!
The Cons: It's almost TOO sheer, and has very little staying power.
Stars: 3 of 5. Would probably repurchase.
#5.
EYELASH CURLER.
The Pros: It's strong, the curvature is perfect for pretty much any eye shape, it's easy to use, gives a great curl, and it DOES NOT STICK TO MY EYE (yes, this has been problematic in the past)
The Cons: Wish it was pink. LOL. Just kidding. None. It's better than my $18 lash curler.. and this one is only a buck.
Stars: 5 of 5. Would repurchase again if necessary (but I think this one will LAST!)
OKAY, here's my WISH LIST. I believe I'll place an order this Saturday, so if you know of any MUST HAVE PRODUCTS that don't smell horrible, please let me know in the comments below.
1. CONTOURING BLUSH AND BRONZING POWDER.
I have seen NOTHING but rave reviews of this on YouTube. Check out that baby-pink blush. It looks beautiful. And, I don't have a nice matte bronzer. Plus, I'm totally loving that compact with the big mirror!!!
2. NATURAL MINERAL LIPSTICK IN NATURAL NYMPH.
Just pretty! Enough said!!
3. ELF NAIL POLISH IN BUBBLEGUM PINK
It's so not as easy as you would think to find a matte in this shade.
4. AND THE PRODUCT I AM SO OVER-THE-MOON EXCITED TO TRY.....
But wait, let me give you some background first.
I have been DYING, ABSOLUTELY DYING, to try the HD Powder from Makeup Forever, pictured here:
I have heard nothing but MAGIC about this product, in its ability to really smooth the face and give the look of minimal pores.
But, it's about $40 for .35oz, and is seemingly impossible to find in nowheresville USA where I live.
And, then a good friend of mine told me, no way, save your money. I just found an EXACT DUPE. OK, that sounds too good to be true, no?
Ok, so my friend probably exaggerated a wee little bit when she said it was an EXACT dupe, but for $6... hmmm... I'm willing to find out.
OK, that's it for ELF tonight. If you have any reviews of your own, or know of something I MUST try, please hit me in the comments below!
(OH, and P.S. I've tried the mineral makeup too but am saving that for an upcoming "LOW COST MINERAL MAKEUP: SALLY VS ELF VS COASTAL SCENTS" edition!)
