LUSH HAUL #3

02/28/2010

Long time, no write! I'm in the process of moving, so I haven't had a ton of extra time and funds for new cosmetics, but my fiance did give me a pretty nice LUSH haul for a late Valentine's gift, so I thought I'd do a quick overview of what I've been trying lately. So, yes, this is LUSH entry number 3. In a row. And no, I'm not affiliated with LUSH, but I wish I were. I'd sure dig some free stuff! LOL!

Okay, beginning with what may be my new favorite LUSH soap thus far....
1.
PORRIDGE SOAP
$5.95/3.5 oz USA; current conversion $4.03/100g UK
This soap is recommended, according to the LUSH website, for sensitive skin. It smells absolutely AMAZING. Seriously. FABULOUS. The scent is very organic... like oatmeal with a slight note of citrus. I can't get enough of this scent, and would love to find more products that smell just like this!!
However, there is a downside. As you can probably see on the soap, it's actually compromised of teeny tiny little oats. And yes, as you use the soap, these things fall out and collect on your bath/shower floor. Also, if you have skin that's really sensitive to harsher textures, you may find the oats a bit abrasive.
My skin is insanely sensitive, but I've had no problems thus far with this soap!

2.
GODMOTHER SOAP
$5.95/3.5 oz USA; current conversion $4.03/100g UK
So, this soap is described as a sweet, yummy candy scent, in the same family as Rockstar. It lathers well, is fairly moisturizing, and has a scent that actually lingers a bit on the skin.
Which would be great, if it smelled good. Now, don't just take my word for it, as this soap seems to be wildly popular on the LUSH websites. But, whereas Rockstar has a fun, sweet scent, this Godmother soap is so sweet that it's actually a bit sickening. It smells very young, like gummy worms maybe, and is actually the first LUSH product that I can definitely know that I will not be repurchasing.
(Although, if my fiance happens to be reading this, I greatly appreciate you buying it for me. I had wanted to try it... and now I know! LOL)

3.
ANGELS ON BARE SKIN
$9.95/3.5 oz USA; $8.37/100g UK
This is the #1 best selling facial cleanser from LUSH, ideal for "all skin types" according to the website. It has a clay base, with rose and lavender, and is intended to "balance" the skin. You pinch off a pea-sized piece, rub it into wet hands, apply to the face, and wash off with warm water. Because it has exfoliating properties, it may not be best for everyday use on very sensitive skin types.
This cleanser felt good on my face both of the two times I used it so far, and it made my skin very soft, but it also broke me out. Now, I've read this is normal, as it starts to "balance" the skin, for the skin to initially break out before using; however, I'm always skeptical of those claims. I only got a sample of this, and have actually switched back to Fresh Farmacy (see Lush Haul #1) but will give this one another try later when I have more patience for my difficult skin. LOL.

4.
WICCY MAGIC MUSCLES MASSAGE BAR
$8.75/2.5 oz USA; $8.22/70g UK
This massage bar is supposedly created specifically to stimulate and massage sore muscles. Like all massage bars, the wiccy is moisturizing and melts nicely on the skin. While some are more easily applied by rubbing first into the hands and then from the hands onto the remainder of the skin, this massage bar is definitely ideal to rub directly on the skin.
The scent is stronger than that of other massage bars I've tried... a mix of peppermint and potpourri, I think, and it actually lingers on the skin for hours. (However, it seems to be something that only *I* smell. Nobody's come up to me yet and told me I smell like potpourri! LOL!) The one big downside, though, is that the tiny beads, intended to massage the skin, actually fall out very easily and drop onto the floor, roll under the bed, etc. Also, I don't feel a "tingle" from this that others have described in their reviews. However, I do love the scent enough to use it despite the fact that it doesn't seem to do much for my muscles.

5.
BUSINESS TIME MASSAGE BAR
$8.95/1.9oz; $6.24/50g
This is probably the most moisturizing massage bar I've tried this far (and I've tried 5 now!), but as such it actually melts the fastest too. So, I definitely use this one quickly, but I use it all over my body. I adore the scent! It smells fairly similarly to the Handy Gurugu lotion (see LUSH Haul #2) and is probably best described as an herbal musky rose scent. It's slightly masculine, I think, but is very soothing. Given that this one is SO moisturizing, I usually use it at night since it tends to make my skin almost a little greasy. I will definitely repurchase this massage bar in the future!

6.
BUFFY (FORMERLY KNOWN AS "BUFFY THE BACKSIDE SLAYER")
There are different sizes on this one, so don't be intimidated by the $21.35 price tag. The smaller version is $10.75/3.3 oz and $7.61/90g UK
Okay, if you remember my review of the salt scrub in my last entry, you'll recall that I LOVED the exfoliating properties of the little green ball, but hated the mess and waste of product that it created in my shower. Well, BUFFY does a fabulous job packaging exfoliation into a nice, convenient bar form that will give you many more than the 2-3 uses you can get out of the scrub.
I was hesitant about this one, as I'd read that it was extremely harsh and needed to be 'diluted' by applying it under running water. If you have very sensitive skin, keep that in mind. However, I don't know that I'd actually stick this bar under running water, as it melts fairly easily and is a little too costly to just waste away like that.
One side is smooth and the other is very grainy. It left my skin feeling very moisturized, and I will most definitely not hesitate to purchase this again in the future. (Supposedly it's great for cellulite too, but I haven't been using it long enough to say anything about that!)

7. AND LAST, but certainly not least

DREAM CREAM.
$22.55/8.4oz; $14.99/240g UK
This body lotion, according to the website, is for skin with "severe" problems. It has an oat milk base with tea tree, chamomile, and lavender. The scent is very faint, almost unnoticeable, and resembles a light custard. The lotion itself is actually not very thick but is surprisingly moisturizing (and slightly greasy). A little definitely goes a long way with this. I've actually been using this as a night cream on my face as well (although I don't know if I can recommend it yet for that purpose, since it's probably not intended for the face!) and so far am having nice results. It soothes my skin when it's overly dry and itchy, and actually seems to be alleviating the redness on my face. (But, definitely don't put this on your face unless it's very dry!)
In all honesty, if you don't have extremely sensitive or "problematic" skin, this probably isn't the product for you. The only real magic to this lotion is that it doesn't irritate highly irritated skin, I think. Since I fall into that category, though, I would definitely consider repurchasing this lotion (and I'm dying to try it's companion, DreamWash for the shower!!!)

Thanks everyone for reading! I know it was 3 in a row, but I do love LUSH COSMETICS so much lately! I promise my next entry will be something other than Lush... for real this time!
