REVIEW: COASTAL SCENTS PALETTE | 10/14/2009 |
I first heard about Coastal Scents on YouTube, from one or two of my favorite makeup gurus (more about those in a later entry), and one of the gals challenged viewers to put this up against MAC.
Against MAC? Ok, I'll bite.
So, I went with the Ultra-Shimmer 88 Eye Shadow Palette, pictured here:

So, first let me tell you about the PIGMENTATION. I mean, wow. A little goes a LONG way. And, while the shimmer is definitely a little stronger than "subtle," it's not glitter. It just provides a strong sheen that, with a light hand, is fine for daytime... but can easily be glammed out for a fierce night eye.
Shipping is fast, each order comes with a sample, and the mirror is nice ad LARGE... perfect for a good, sturdy application.
However, if you don't have a good eyeshadow brush, invest in one along with your order. Don't leave it up to those little sponge applicators that come with the palette. They don't do this product justice! Coastal Scents does carry some nice quality brushes, for as low as about 2 bucks a pop! The eyeshadow brushes are durable, with bristles soft enough to be gentle to the touch but firm enough to really pack in the color! (With the exception being the "Super Fine" Eye Liner brush. WAY too soft and flexible, which led to a big mess when I attempted a straight gel line across my lid!)
So, to recap, I definitely give this product a MAJOR gold star. Seriously, best eyeshadow purchase I've EVER made (and boy have I made a lot!)
PROS: Quick shipping, always comes with a free sample, nice large mirror, just enough shimmer to make my eyes pop!, excellent pigmentation, superb range of colors
CONS: Buy your own brushes! And, buyer beware... there are a range of other palettes on the website.. and once you get one, your credit card will be CRYING for more!!!
I enjoyed the product so much I placed an order for a few more things to try, including a foundation sample, concealer sample, and a gel liner, so I'll definitely add my reviews once the UPS man pays me a timely visit! |
