When I say that I LOVE EYELINER, wow, do I mean it.
And yes, ladies, I *DO* line both my top AND my bottom lid. Pretty much every day. It's sassy, it's fun, and it's so me.
So, when it comes to my favorite must-have makeup item, I'm extremely picky. I want something that, goes on smoothly, shows up fabulously, and stays on STRONG!
Most eyeliners fail the test.
For the longest time, my only REAL makeup winner was THIS diva.
The ever notorious MAC Fluidliner. Easy. Silky. FIERCE! A winner in every step of the game.
However, MAC's not available everywhere, and, in fact, the zip code search for *MY* town reveals a more-than-I'm-willing-to-drive-for-eyeliner type of route to my nearest makeup counter. Sure, there's online shopping, but what's a girl to do in one of those I NEED IT NOW moments?
Let me introduce you to a little gem I picked up from my local target store.
Pixi Gel Liner.
$18.00, brush included.
Colors: Onyx, Sapphire, Jade.
If you hate the feel of a pencil liner (I know I can't be the only one to have stabbed myself on a poorly sharpened pencil liner!) and are intimidated by the trickiness of a liquid liner, I definitely this product for you. In terms of ease of use, I give this a 5-star rating. The brush is small and firm, though the bristles are flexible enough to maneuver gently around the curve of the lid. Be careful to use a light hand, though, especially on the bottom lashes, as I've found that a little goes a long way. It truly stays on from morning to night, but is easily removed by your run of the mill eye-makeup remover.
So, Pros of the Pixi Gel Liner? SO easy to use that ANYONE can get that Amy Lee look and the color lasts all day and looks just as vibrant as the first application.
Cons? At $18 a pop, this actually can run a buck or two MORE than the Mac Fluidline, which may defeat the purpose of finding a nice alternative product.
If cost is an issue, though, try L'oreal HIP Eyeliner, which will run you about $10 and change a piece.
Pros of this one? Long lasting color with loads of pigmnt, goes on fairly thick without a lot of work, and a bit more friendly to the bank account.
Cons? I've found that the HIP tends to get a little clumpy over time in the jar, and as such gets harder and harder to smooth over my lid in a seamless manner. Also, the brush was a little flakier, as the bristles seemed to lose their shape over time as well.
