SPRING/SUMMER FASHION TRENDS, PART 1

03/27/2010

Okay, not exactly makeup, but I digress. In my adoration for all things makeup and skincare, I find myself alternatively a bit addicted to all things fashion... however, unlike the makeup/skincare, I rarely actually partake of the trends I read about in my glossy magazines. But, here and there, I do find things I can incorporate into my daily wear, be it from the fashion magazines or the blogs or the YouTube videos I love.

I've been seeing a TON of information on what's speculated to be huge this Spring/Summer, and I can't say that I'm really THAT crazy about it. I'll break this down into a few entries, hopefully with pictoral examples (not from my own closet, as like I said, I'm just not digging most of these. But I'll try to point out examples from common stores of exactly how these trends are expected to occur).

I'm no fashion expert. This is just what I'm observing through the various social media avenues. And, while I may link to certain stores to SHOW you what I'm describing, I'm still not cool enough to have any afiliation with any of them. LOL.

Oh, and these are all women's fashion trends. I'm not a man, I don't dress my man, so I really don't have any vested interest at this time in the manly trends, if those exist

So, here we go. Some of these links are small/pale, so they may be easy to miss!

TREND 1: NUDE PUMPS

Check it out. These are EVERYWHERE! Shades may vary, based on skin tone, but it seems the general idea is not only that they match everything but also that they elongate the leg, making you appear taller. The magazines are recommending that you seek out a nude pump within a shade or two of your actual skin tone, without appearing that you've tried to create an exact duplicate of your leg.

Since these were big in the fall too, they should be fairly accessible in stores. Here are a few I've seen online:

Steve Madden "Trinitie Blush" (this one's a darker nude that it appears online)
$99.99 on http://www.stevemadden.com

Mossimo Virginia Pumps
$29.99 at Target. Sold out online, though.

These are a little different in style, but same basic idea. $39.99 at JcPenny

Urban Outfitters offers a pale, suede nude for $48.

And my personal faves are these at DSW. Be sure to click the nude ones!

2. TREND 2: ALL THINGS NAUTICAL!!

This is a trend not only of color but of style. Bring out the navy blues, the stripes, the white pants, and the anchor earrings... just not all together. The idea here is to choose KEY PIECES... not to do a recreation of a theme aka Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus (for those of us who remember that!)

Now, this isn't a full-out sailor fest, so don't fear. There are a number of ways, from dressy to casual, to make it work this spring and summer.

You can always go simple with an anchor necklace, shown here from Forever 21. (This one is $5.80, but last time I checked the store, there were no less than a dozen nautical-inspired selections in earrings and necklaces. Don't mix an anchor necklace with matching earrings, though... that's definitely overkill!)

Forever21 also has a pretty big collection of striped tops/sweaters like the one shown below. (This one is $22.80 and ranges from S-L)

Or, similarly mirror the pattern in a flowy short-sleeved version, like this Roxy Brand top for $34.50 at Nordstrom's.

For an all-out nautical dress, check out this option from Charlotte Russe, for $26.99 online and in stores

The GAP has a few cute options with either a range of linen pleated pants in a range of colors for $39.50> or full length white pants at $59.50 or maybe a snuggly striped hoodie on sale for $34.99.

The Steve Madden website gives a few full outfit looks that demonstrate that the nautical theme, while present, isn't as IN YOUR FACE as it was back when some of us were kids.

LOL since this was a lot more work than I expected, I'm stopping here for PART 1. Watch for PART 2 featuring "Floral Explosion!" "Structured Shoulders" and "Mixed Denims"!

All links/photos were shown for demonstrative purposes only. I am not promoting or encouraging any of these brands/products!

I love those Urban outfitters shoes. The heel isn't too big and it's chunky enough that even those of us who suck at walking can still wear them and not fall on our face.

The drawback? I have really big feet and can never find shoes in my size. I wear a size 12 in women's shoes.
