Has anyone heard of Watermelon Slim?
I just downloaded his new album Escape from the chicken coop from iTunes, simply because the name amused me (I really have to block myself from my iTunes account... other purchases today include Bette Midler's Greatest Hits and some Shirley Bassey tracks). Anyway, he is quite good. A blues artist. Decidedly hillbilly (you can probably guess that from the track names).
I've listened to the whole album once so far, and it's all a favourite already. The best songs, in my opinion, are Hank Williams wrote my life, It's never to hard to be humble and the weird poem track (literally just a poetry reading) Friends on the porch.
So yes, you should all go check that out if you are from the Deep South, stuck in the 1950s or weird like me. |
