I finally got to give Green Day's latest album, 21st Century Breakdown, a good listen through, which, being a huge Green Day fan, was a big deal to me. You see, I'm poor and can't buy it. So I got to listen through it driving around with my friend Joe the other day. I am completely in love with it. It's quite a break away from American Idiot, which I think is odd, given that that album was hailed by many as a masterpiece. Now, I loved me some American Idiot, but I dug some of their old stuff a lot more. This new album is a little bit of a throw back to the old sound while managing to be entirely it's own sound at the same time. At first, when I listened to the album though, I thought it sounded as though they'd lost all their energy, given the slower nature of several of the songs. I was wrong. It's just a very different feel than I'm used to from Green Day. And though I have no problems with throwing profanity at a problem to fix it, as was done in their last outing, I've yet to find a single swear on the new album. I might not be listening hard enough, but I can actually listen to this album in my own home, so that's amazing as well, given my parents hatred for their music.
All in all, I'd give this 4 1/2 stars out of 5, maybe 5. Love it.
