Eventually, We'll Return to Regularly Scheduled Programming

10/24/2010

It's hard being new. I kind of feel like I did when I was in Kindergarten, watching the other kids play together, and amazed at how they all seemed to know each other already. Thankfully, one of the things I've learned as the years have gone by is that if you just sit near the slide and wait for people to take notice of you, it's not going to happen. You have to actually move and put yourself out there a bit.

I think this is why people may threaten to leave a site like Open Diary, but never actually do. It's so much easier to stay where you know lots of people, where all of your friends are, where you know the system... as long as you can actually access the site. I'm no stranger to moving around (I've lived in seven places in the last ten years) so making a move like this is a bit familiar to me. Plus, Ninja Muse, Teffy, and lots of people I know are here! That makes it a lot easier. There's always Facebook for me to contact Shiny Ninja, Quizzical Ninja, Red Sox Ninja (the only Ninja that actually lives in our state), and YIM for talking to Imaginary Ninja.

I still don't know what I should say as an introduction though. What are the important things that people should know? What are the bits that are really only interesting to myself and that David's* good enough to feign interest in? The sheer amount of Ninja-isms and inside jokes that grew over the years at OD is massive.

The thing that most people know about me is that I write (I've written seven-ish novels), I make sock monkeys (I'm better at those than writing), I'll be working in a lab doing things with lots of blood** until December when the facility I work at is relocating. After that, I'm not sure. Hopefully it will be something without lots of blood.

I don't like the day job***. I much prefer writing and making monkeys. I'm incredibly attached to my sock monkeys, though more and more of them are going off into the world, where they can be loved by their own special people. I have a shop up on Etsy, but I'm not good at keeping it full because there's so many special orders.

For right now, I'm out of things to say. If anyone wants to know anything in particular, I'm happy to answer.

Um... could someone tell me how to respond to comments? I still haven't quite figured that out yet.

John

Holy super squee! I just figured out how to get things like italics, etc. This makes me Very Happy. I was wondering how Teflon Superhero managed to get that video in there! *Makes note to tell Ninja Muse*

*David is my husband.
**Really not kidding about that.
*** I was almost gassed to death there and there are other bad things too.

good grief.. being nearly gassed and working with blood sounds horrid. =/ I'd rather work at McDonalds.. You probably get paid better, though...

Lessee... first things first: WELCOME TO BLOOP! I'm glad that you're taking the leap. I took the leap years ago from FOD and never looked back. Well, I tried, but the site was down so, *shrugs* meh.

You can reply to comments in a couple different ways. When you are looking at your entry itself (example: http://www.bloopdiary.com/ryskamp/eventually-well-return-to-regularly-scheduled-programming) you can click on "reply" to reply to a specific comment. In this method, the person who left the comment gets a message in their inbox indicating that there's a reply with a link back to your entry where they can read the reply. The method -I- prefer to employ is to instead click on "my comments" from any page on bloop (it's part of the side-bar menu) then click on "converse" type "ryc" (meaning reply to your comment) and then reply away! It shows up as a comment on that person's newest entry and creates a log (like a conversation via IM) of your exchanged messages. It helps to keep track of who said what in what order.

Hope that helps

p.s. your sock monkey looks terribly unhappy but very well crafted. hehe

Not to mention Mr. Evil!!!!! And yeah the only thing I haven't figured out is after you add a picture, it doesn't show up?! I must be doing something wrong. It didn't show up when I was writing but put them all together at the bottom of the entry LOL

RYC: I hear ya. I'm slowly getting used to it. I find myself writing over here a lot more than I do on OD now...which I kinda dislike. But at the same time, I feel more welcome here.

Guess what? Quizzical Ninja is here, too, now! Lots of love and hugs!

YAY!!! *Hugs Quizzical Ninja* I hope Shiny Ninja will be joining you!

I'm doing things the 'cowards' way and easing myself over here. I've been elsewhere for so long that I believe that I write more for others than I write for myself. This place is going to be my leather couch... though I did cross-post today. I plan on that happening only today, and the rest of the time, this place will be my leather couch... the place I feel safe laying back, putting my feet up, and spilling my guts while my invisible therapist takes notes and asked randomly- And how does that make you feel... before ultimately coming to the conclusion that my parents somehow are to blame.

Ok, that last little bit MIGHT have taken things a tad too far... surely my parents aren't to blame... after all it's been 11 years since I have lived under their roof.
