Why does the college process have to be so difficult? And how come everytime I try and talk to an advisor they are completely clueless and have no idea what they are talking about?
I am trying to get started back in school. At least online for now so I can get some courses out of the way while I am just sitting at home with Claire all the time. But the process has been horrible. I started by talking to an advisor. I wanted to originally go in undecided til I chose between nursing and teaching and they told me they would not accept financial aid on an undecided major. She told me the best option would be to go for my AA in liberal arts and then transfer to which ever program I decided on when that was over with. So I applied to the program sent off for all my transcripts.
I started doing some research on the transfer opportunities and such. The process that type of thing and got to looking at some timelines. To do my AA first and then transfer to a BSN program at the university will take near 6 years to finish . If I were to start nursing now it would take 4. I don't want to waste extra time. Because like 75% of the AA has nothing to do with nursing, just a few of the gen eds. If I were to choose teaching that would be different but I have been leaning towards nursing for a few years now every time I look into school.
So now I think I am on the page of just biting the dust and applying to nursing school. I think my biggest worry is being able to hack it. I know once I get through school and clinicals I will have a better idea of what areas I want to work in and which I don't which will help me find a job I actually like doing within the profession. It is getting through the crappy clinicals and busting my ass to get there.
As for no one knowing what they are talking about - I talked to Fafsa cause I wanted to make sure that was the case. I asked if they would not pay on an undecided major. They just kept telling me to talk to the school they would know. Well shouldn't they know too? It is their money they are paying out. Now I am waiting on a few people to get back to me. I want to know if I can get into the university on my GED alone. I have that and my high school diploma but no ACT and I don't think I could get good enough scores if I took it now to get into a competitive nursing program. So if I take the LPN program through the tech college I can transfer into the universities BSN program . But I want to know if all the courses taken in my LPN will be accepted or equivelant to the ones they have or if again half my courses will basically be a waste and thrown out the window. No one knows that either it seems. These two schools transfer between all the time you would think someone would know.
Anyways. I am just frustrated, no wonder the furthering education numbers arent higher because people don't want to deal with going back to school... ugh! I will write more later.
