...another one opens!
So, we were supposed to move into our new place on Saturday, March 23rd. However, on Tuesday, March 19th (Henry's 5th birthday), the new landlord called Jacob at 11:30 am to say that he was "no longer comfortable" renting to us. WTF does that mean??? To this day, we have no idea. I do know that he has not yet paid back the $1,100 security deposit we paid, nor the $1,100 first month's rent. We signed the lease at the end of January so we had a binding contract. This man has messed with the wrong people, let me tell you! We have filed a small claims case for $8,700 (this includes the $2,200 owed that we already paid plus $6,500 for breach of contract and pain and suffering). We also filed a complaint with the fair housing council. I am not one to arbitrarily sue anyone but let me tell you...I will nail this fucker's balls to the wall over this!
So, after we "recovered" from the shock and undid everything that had been scheduled (movers, utilities, cleaners, etc.), we decided that we were done dealing with landlords. We didn't know if we'd be able to but we decided to buy a house. Jacob filled out all the necessary paperwork for a VA loan and has been pre-approved for large mortgage (we have no intention of using all of it) plus a home improvement loan all at a ridiculously low rate and without me being involved at all (it appears as though his credit is finally fixed as it has soared over 800!!). So, on the weekend, with our home choices in hand, we drove around for hours looking at the neighborhoods and outsides of the houses trying to narrow our search down to our top 5. We actually got it down to a top 3 and called to schedule appointments to view. We found out that one of the houses was indeed too good to be true and had major foundation issues (no thank you!!). The other two were able to fit us in at 6pm and 6:45pm. We were disappointed with the first showing even though it was always a top pick. We went to the second showing after being out looking at house since about 10am. We were getting pretty exhausted over all this. To say we loved it was an understatement! Of course, it is in high demand as we were the 8th showing that day! But, we had the pre-approval so we decided to put in an offer (which took almost 2.5 hours to complete all the paperwork). We left about 9:15 and got word that our offer was accepted by 10pm that night! OMG! We're buying a house! **sqeeee**
Now comes the inspection next weekend and if that and the appraisal go well, the plan is to close on 5/1. We will then take about 30 days to paint/decorate/etc. and move in at the end of May. I'm still shocked at how fast this is going!! I am including pics of the new house below. Please keep your fingers crossed that this all works out!!!
