Tax season has stolen my fiance! (and asking for some wedding advice!)
Wow! Thank you everyone for your congrats! It was fun to log on and read all of the comments!

Tax season has stolen my finace Ryan is in Chattanooga again for the rest of this week. And, he is going again next week. I hate "year end" for the finance guys. Make Ry busy, if he isn't traveling then he isn't coming home until 9 or 10 pm. Yuck. That means I am actually staying at my apartment.

On the wedding front, I think we have set a date (or a month!) We are aiming for October 23rd...OF THIS YEAR!! (give or take a week or two) I really enjoy and prefer fall weddings, I love the colors, designs, atmosphere, etc. and I don't want to wait until October of 2011. So, that gives us about 9 months which is a little aggressive but I think it can be done. I am making a "short list" of ideal wedding locations- and Ry and I are going to start calling and inquiring this weekend. I think once we are nail down a ceremony and reception place those are two of the biggest things and we can fan out from there.

I also want to start thinking about the bridal party...and all of the fun stuff- dress, decorations, food, flowers. But, I think I need to start at the basics and move up. Question for engaged or married women- did you use a wedding planner or do everything on your own. Let me know your thoughts

I am having such a lazy night. I am sitting at home watching Ghost Hunters (my guilty pleasure) Ryan makes fun of me about it all the time.) I am alone tonight, which is not a good idea. Hopefully my roommate comes home soon I don't totally freak myself out!

Off to research wedding locations!! Wish me luck!

Oh wow! That's really soon! It took us 18 months to plan our october wedding (and gosh, I felt so busy!!) Good luck with that!

I didn't use a wedding planning (as far as a person goes, I assume you mean) ... it seemed like a waste of money, and extremely impersonal to me. I thought every girl's dream was always to plan her wedding, LOL!

But good luck! Once you pick the date - everything else is fun!

I started planning our wedding really in the fall of last year, so we had roughly the same amount of time as you. We were engaged for longer but due to circumstances it had to wait a little bit.

We are using a wedding planner for the two weeks prior to the wedding. She'll call and confirm all the vendors, go over their contracts, make out a list for everyone with times, etc, etc and she'll coordinate the Rehearsal, the Ceremony and the Reception to keep us all on track.

I think it's well worth it.

Whatever you can do to destress on that day and enjoy your wedding day is worth it.

Some of them are rather inexpensive also. Just look around

9 months is enough time to plan! get on your dress quick though because some places take a few months for it to be ordered

well, since i saw you on the FP, congrats on your engagement! let the fun begin. haha.
my husband and i were engaged for almost a year and a half before we set a date, so major kudos to you guys for narrowing that one down right off! lol.
anyways, to answer your question...i bought this nifty wedding planner thing from a website, and it came in a binder and was full of ideas and stuff. however, a lot of what was in it was for super traditional weddings, and we didn't want that as much. so, i became bff with theknot.com. i dunno how many articles i read, saved, emailed, printed and put into that binder, but it helped me immensely. and saved money hiring someone. lol.
my husband travelled for about 2weeks at a time then, so my MIL and i ended up planning the wedding in six months...dress, ceremony, reception, the works. yeah, we lucked out! so i know the stress you feel with nine months to go. lol. if you need any more tips or tricks, feel free to jump over and ask!
good luck hun! and happy planning! hugs

I haven't had a wedding, but I know this for sure. If you plan your own wedding you still need to appoint someone to oversee it. Even if its just your mom or a good friend.
When my aunt got married she didn't have one specific person to check things off the list so us bridesmaids ended up running all over the church getting the flowers out of the freezer, making sure all the candleabras were lit, trying to find a can of hairspray last minute... LOL things that a assistant would have been on top of.

My mom and I put my wedding together in a little less then 2 months. in 6 weeks roughly. It was fun though, less time to stress the little things

I also did my brothers wedding for the most part, she picked things out, I made her veil and put everything together and made the arrangements and made it happen though
